How often your profiles are visited through Directory?

I am wondering how many potential clients really use Translator's Directory and how often they really click to see the profile of a translator?

Unfortunately his question may be answered only by members as AFAIK non-members don't have access to full statistics.

In case of my profile it is approximately 2 visits a week - I have no idea if it is within average or not.
What about your profiles?

For those who were not previously interested in this issue and don't know how to check it - in your profile you need to click on Visitors and look for entries "Directory" in the column: "Came from".

Best Regards
Stanislaw

I had 2 today and another one last week. That makes three in a week.

That's not overwhelming, is it?:-?

By far most of my visitors lately were crawlers, so I have stopped to check my visitor's tab a long time ago.

Irregular traffic Sep 16, 2009

In the last 30 days, my profile was visited 9 times after a directory search, so this also equates to ~2 per week. The last 7 visits occurred in the last 2 weeks, so there seems to be an upward trend.

I am sure there will be some who receive more visits from the directory (e.g. top 10 kudoz anwerers specialising in the "bigger" fields i.e. IT, Finance etc.!?

No idea what the distribution is, however; a lot of this could be web crawlers. I lack the patience to copy, paste, sort and count by category.

It's hard to say if it is a lot or no Sep 16, 2009

Hi,

Thank you for sharing this Christel and Key, I am glad to see that my average is not too bad.

After all how many new clients can you meet without active marketing of your services? I read somewhere that on average members of ProZ.com meet around 4 new clients/year if it were true it would not be so bad. I also believe that majority of entries through the Directory comes from people who may become regular clients.

Still it would be nice to hear what people who are in top 10 in the Directory have to say.

Best Regards
Stanislaw

Hi Stanislaw,
Like Christel, I have become discouraged by crawlers lately, but you made me curious as I am a top 10 KudoZ answerer.
Although no specialist in the "bigger" fields, I am first or well placed in fields related to Art/Literary, Social Sciences and Other.
I counted 21 visitors coming from the Directory in the last 30 days, usually 1 to 3 visits each. One of them returned 11 times.
I don't really know what to make of it, but it might be useful information for your research.
Good luck!
Bea

My experience with the directory Sep 17, 2009

I don't think I'm a top ten answerer in any KudoZ field, but I have been found by seven different clients through the directory since I joined 15 months ago. A couple of these were short local jobs, like interpreting, but four have followed up with more work, and one recommended me to another good client. I keep a close watch on my "visitors" page, and when I see that someone looked at my profile, but didn't pick me, I look at the key words to see what they wanted. If it is something I am good at, I check my profile to see if I made it clear enough that I can do that particular task. If not, I tinker a bit with my profile to highlight my strengths a little better. So the "visitors" column provides me with valuable feedback about my profile.

Five Sep 17, 2009

I've had 5 through Directories since Sep 5. I think it gives wonderful opportunities to work with outsourcers you don't know. At least, I could work with an outsourcer from Europe, and I liked it. Come to think of it, Proz home is more translator oriented. If the Directories is shown on the top of the homepage, we might have a bit more chances. What do you think?
By the way, are they Proz staffs from MV CA? I've been wondering.

Sorting the data Sep 17, 2009

Is there some data mining function I'm missing, or are all of you counting these figures by hand? I've always found the visitors tab to be of limited value, because there doesn't seem to be much possibility of working with the data unless I resort to manual copying into Excel or a similar tool. I'm certainly not inclined to read through a list of hundreds of entries and cherry-pick directory searches or visits straight from a Google page or whatever every time I want to check the status of the traffic. (Maybe enhanced stats reporting could be a nice little development project for the ProZ team.)

Just entries from Directory Sep 17, 2009

Hi,

Thank you for so many replies. Just one suggestion - if we want to be able to compare this information we need to use same data - so please try to check only entries from the Directory in column "Came from" note: "Directory" followed by info about settings used by someone using directory for example language pair, location, specialization, etc.

Btw. entries from crawlers are a real nuisance. Considering that most crawlers identify themselves it definitely should be possible to show them separately.

Best Regards
Stanislaw

I am afraid that for the time being we have to do it by hand - but you are right - it would be great to be able to sort it by source or keywords/keyphrases.
