Hi,
No other suggestions were made so I'll set one loose.
Maybe a little basic as a topic, but very important to me would be a Back-office focus group.
I've been trying to set up a system, but it's in constant evolution as my activity changes and as I learn more about the French administrative and tax rules...
(for example I now have to file under the regime declaré which completely changes my systems for accounting, VAT returns, professional expenses, etc.)
Getting to discuss this with others and find out their systems would be very informative.
Also, people could discuss their organisational systems for archives, preferred managing software, even if they've set up a marketing strategy and schedule.
Of course, some topics may be linked to the 'developing in france' seminar, but a round table could open more ideas.
I hope this helps!

Indeed in France the back-office issues take up a lot of time ! Have the organizers already planned to have an expert comptable come in as a speaker to discuss different régimes and taxes and other related matters ? As a translator who is just beginning as a freelancer, I would be interested in having not only a round-table discussion, but a more detailed presentation on the fiscal matters (choice of structure, various options such as ACCRE etc)

I'm going to make some inquiries, get in contact with some officials from the various French entities (DDETFP, ANPE, EDEN, etc.) to see if they would like to participate.
One more thing on my never-ending to do list!

I also suggest you to contact some free-salariat ("portage salarial") companies, because there may be many translators working under this system (like me). To check them, you can go to the site http://www.guideduportage.com

Cordialement,
Anne | | | | | | |

I'm on a roll today.
I was looking at the SFT website where they have an article about the new European quality standards.
Maybe you could see if someone wants to come and talk about the new standard, since I had seen some discussion on the forums on how some thought it wasn't necessarily a good thing for us translators, despite first appearances.
Anyway, I'm interested in knowing more and discussing both sides of the coin.
thanks,

There was some discussion about this recently at a translator's workshop in Rennes. Daniel Gouadec, Professor at Rennes 2, talked about the fact that it doesn't make sense to establish a translation standard that requires a translation be proofread by a second translator without establishing a proofreading standard. He has a very good point.
I sent him and his colleague, Daniel Toudic, an e-mail to see if they would like to come. Still waiting to find out if they can get some funding to come down to the conference. Keep your fingers crossed!
Thanks for your input, keep it coming!

I know a French and International tax specialist I could ask to present and answer questions, but would everything be at the speaker's expense?

Hi Natalia
Thank you so much for all your suggestions today!
Could you please send us the contact details for the tax specialist to the conference e-mail address at france@proz-conferences.com and we'll take it from there.
Best regards
