Is there a means on Proz (or off of it) for outsourcers to "blackball" translators comparable to the way that translators can provide bad reports about outsourcers on the Blue Board?

ban those with more than 2 bad records to bid Proz jobs.

Wouldn't it be a great idea for the outsourcers?

Not in ProZ.com Jul 28, 2008

ProZ.com currently provides no mechanism for posting negative feedback on translators and other service providers.

Enrique

whereas the outsourcers have no options to hide their blueboard entries.

That is the difference.

Blackball facility coming up? Jul 28, 2008

However, such a mechanism is apparently forthcoming.

Can you tell us more about it?

Independently of the visibility of feedback in profiles, it is not possible to post negative feedback on translators in ProZ.com.

There are no current plans for implementing the ability to provide negative feedback on translators.

Enrique

Some negative entries on the outsourcers' blueboard are justified with "bad translation quality", and in this case many translators make their blueboard entry invisible, so that no negative feedbacks can be seen on their profiles. Only when you happen to come across the blueboard entry of a certain outsourcer, you encounter a negative feedback of a certain translator.

Rules for posting a BB entry Jul 28, 2008

Bin,
According to the rules, if there was an issue with the quality of the translation delivered, or with the deadline, the service provider (translator) cannot make a BB entry for the outsourcer. So, if you saw such entries, and then they were hidden, the reason may very well be the non-compliance with this rule.

See the rule here:
http://www.proz.com/?sp=siterules&mode=show&category=blue_board_bb_blueboard

Certain conditions must be met before Blue Board entries can be made. Entries concerning willingness to work again with given outsourcers are allowed only when (1) commissioned work has been completed in full and delivered on time, and (2) there have not been complaints related to quality shortly after delivery.

I noticed that Jul 28, 2008

I've seen some outsourcers make bad comments on translators in response to a low rating from that particular translator, on the Blue Board. The embarassed translator then has the option of deleting the negative feedback along with their own comment, feedback which may or may not have been justified.

I'm glad outsourcers are not being given any more opportunity than that to make unsubtantiated claims against translators - this is a translators' site. Long live the BB and other feedback mechanisms exactly as they are. With one small exception, they have kept me far away from bad payers and slander. The BB has led to good working relationships for me.
