I do not post jobs very often at Proz.com, so I may have missed some featurs. But at least the response system seems unnessesaryly complicated.
When someone bids on the job, the job poster does not get the email address of the bidder and when answering cannot attach a file. So the poster has to send a note to the bidder and ask him for more details directly via email in order to send the file.
And I wonder why the default currency is USD, though nobody in Europe pays in dollars. It would be easy to adjust the form to the location of the poster or leave the default empty.
And there should be a third alternative, by word, hour, and line. As I will not pay by word this information, though required in the form, is useless.

ProZ.com is aware of these issues Jul 11, 2004

Thanks, Heinrich.
I can only agree with your judgement; in fact, ProZ.com staff and moderators are very much aware of the limitations and pitfalls of the current system.

Let me give you an update of where we stand.

A long-term process to improve the overall quality of Jobs processes was initiated about 18 months ago, when a dedicated team of Jobs/BlueBoard moderators joined forces to address these issues.

Our first priority was the BlueBoard: it took about three months to conduct a cleanup operation, and to get some additional functions helping us to keep the entries up to date. More recently, a link function connecting user profiles to BlueBoard entries was added: this was the first step to implementing a revised Jobs structure, by the way.

Various suggestions were discussed and adopted during a moderators' meeting in February 2004 (some of which are reflected in your posting, such as a better differentiation of payment options). ProZ.com staff are currently working on the foundations of a new system - as you can imagine, this is anything but a trivial task, and will involve considerable programming resources. That's why I cannot give you a timeline yet, but rest assured that we're working on it.

Best regards,
Ralf

A bidder's choice Jul 11, 2004

Hi Heinrich,

When someone bids on the job, the job poster does not get the email address of the bidder

It is a bidder's personal choice whether to show his/her email address (full address, telephone/fax number) or not.

And I wonder why the default currency is USD, though nobody in Europe pays in dollars.

I presume it is so as the "site" is located in the US, but there is a dropdown menu and the currency can be easily changed

It would be easy to adjust the form to the location of the poster or leave the default empty.

I am not 100% sure about this, but many members do not indicate the Country they live in, so it wouldn't always work.

And there should be a third alternative, by word, hour, and line.

Staff is working on a new job posting form and these alternatives will be included in the new version (at least these alternatives, included per page, were suggested by moderators)-

Giuliana

Exactly. Jul 11, 2004

Hi Tayfun,

Perhaps a Customized Job posting page considering individual preferences, including ability to set Payment method as Euro or else as the case may be, would be more attractive for Outsourcers.

We discussed and defined a number of customisation options, including payment conventions, payment terms and various other options.

I do not think it would be so difficult to customize this page as there are already many Customized settings in Proz.com.

Well, that's what I would have thought, too - having discussed this with Henry at length, believe me, it is not a trivial task.

I think Job posting and generaly job related sections are of primary concern.

Most definitely.
Henry and Jason would probably confirm that we keep pestering them whenever there's a chance. But I'm sure the ProZ.com team are aware of the importance of this, and use their resources accordingly.

Best regards, Ralf
