This idea is the result of a recent discussion with some friends of mine. Would'nt it make more sense to limit blue board entries to one year to ensure that they are actually up to date? Who knows, maybe the project managers have changed or the freelancer has been replaced by another translator. Naturally, an option could be provided where the author of the entry is notified of its expiration and asked whether s/he would like to renew it or not (with the new date).

A one-year limit for Blue Board entries? ... May 24, 2005

I don't think that introducing a 1-year limit for the Blue Board entries would be of much use.

1) The entries are date-stamped. This way, you can see the "credit histories" and the current trends that can indicate which way a particular translation agency is heading.

2) The entries are editable. You may add, edit or delete any information in your entry as required. However, you cannot delete the entry, and it's good (see item 1 above).

I agree with Vladimir. Personally I think the Blueboard is one of the most useful aspects of proz.com and I don't think anything needs changing!

Not if there's a reply from the outsourcer, which is why I proposed allowing multiple ratings from one translator (say, two per year or so) a while back - see http://www.proz.com/post/152254#152254

Benjamin

A year is definitely too short May 24, 2005

It is true, changes happen in both ways, but the agency is allowed to reply to entries, and their 'history' can be useful to know.

Over time it gives a picture of their general attitude, and translators can see the 'present status' from the most recent entries. This is most fair to agencies who have temporary problems, solve them, and just need some cooperative translators to become good business partners again.

I don´t agree May 24, 2005

I dont think this should be implemented. There are many outsourcers with a history of non payment it would be like opening a cage of lion. If a agency did not pay their translators one year ago why should they be trusted again.

I don't agree either May 24, 2005

The history of an agency is highly important and 1 year is definitely a very short period to be sure about him. Let's leave it as it is.

Allowing new entries after a certain period of time May 27, 2005

Hi all,
I'm also against erasing historical entries, however, I see the point in being able to update the situation.

What could be done is to lock old entries (perhaps showing them in grey), and to simultaneously permit the entry of a new entry. This might take place 12 months after the original entry posted.

I welcome your thoughts on this.

Best, Ralf

I agree with Ralf's suggestion to change color of old entries without erasing them.

I have another suggestion to add link to the different name(s) that the particular agency operates under. Some agencies have multiple business names that they operate under, and also some agencies change their company names and/or web addresses after they receive unfavorable reviews or having financial problems. (i.e. File bankruptcy and reopens the same business under a different name)
This will improve Blue Board if ProZ could implement this.

Multiple links already implemented May 30, 2005

Linking a BB record to multiple profiles is already possible (as is linking multiple BB records to one profile). If you have evidence that an outsourcer who has been banned from ProZ.com attempts to use the site under a different name, please contact a Jobs moderator. (You may need to provide evidence.)

Best regards,
Ralf

Thanks for your suggestion, Christine. We have just implemented something that I believe may meet the objectives you have in mind, while not giving cause for some of the concerns raised by others in this thread. For details, see: http://www.proz.com/topic/34889
