The “Visitors” tab of full-member profiles offers the useful links to melissadata.com for IP address identification. Wikipedia uses a similar thing, at http://samspade.org/whois/, to identify anonymous editors. I believe the samspade.org site is better: it offers far more details about the visitor and it doesn’t bother users with excessive advertisements. It may be of advantage to members if you conside... The advantage of Melissa is that it assumes the user is dumb. Samspade assumes the user is a geek. Here is the difference between Melissa's output and Samspade's output for one of my visitors:

Melissa:
IP Address 72.30.142.164

State or Region CALIFORNIA
Country UNITED STATES
ISP INKTOMI CORPORATION.

Samspade:
OrgName: Inktomi Corporation
OrgID: INKT
Address: 701 First Ave
City: Sunnyvale
StateProv: CA
PostalCode: 94089
Country: US

To the unsuspecting nongeek, Samspade seems to imply that the visitor is an employee of Inktomi Corporation, and that he can be contacted at the address given. Melissa makes it clear to the user that Inktomi is but the user's internet service provider, and provides the rest of the data in a more statistic-looking way.
