I never paid much attention to the little Google Ads here. But just some minutes ago there was one which astonished me a bit.

Sexy Baltic Ladies
Single ladies from Baltic countries are looking for love
www.russian-women-personals.com

Is this a blunder or quite normal?

Rubbing my eyes in disbelief.

Steffi

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I will block that ad via URL from appearing on proz.com via google ads. We have filters in place to prevent inappropriate ads from appearing, but sometimes they do slip through. If you see one that is inappropriate please do send that to us via a support ticket at www.proz.com/support and if possible include the ad url as you have - or a screen image so we can correctly identify and block the ad in question.

No need to submit support as I have already blocked the ad via Google adsense.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Regards,

Drew

Please make screenshots Jan 15, 2009

Hi Tuliparola,

please make screenshots of this and send to ProZ Staff via Support Request. The question of Google ads has come up recently, however the Staff was not able to reproduce this (possibly because these ads change every few minutes, besides, members don't see any Google ads.

TIA,

Uldis

Not true. Full members with open eyes can see them in
the forum overview
http://www.proz.com/forum

Lori when I'm logged out I can even see them here in this
section, but logged in just in the forum overview.

Single and over 40? Jan 15, 2009

I couldn't see any ads here either even though I have Firefox's Adblock Plus disabled here. Anyway, I went from Firefox to IE and logged out and voila! the naughty ads:

PS.

Has html code been disabled in the forums? The code below doesn't work.
Code:

Visible to site visitors! Jan 15, 2009

I noticed this when I upgraded my browser and its 'remember page on this computer' was out of action.

Consequently I had to log in each time for a while. I was surprised at all the ads that appeared prior to login and wondered about the impression that a a non-user/non-member site visitor would get?

Does Proz need this?

Do you want a date with your translation, sir? Jan 16, 2009

It can be a nice money earner (click based) for a website that displays Google Ads. Read more here:https://www.google.com/adsense/

I think Proz is becoming a fun website.

I have a daily 'date with my translation', sir. It starts a bit early and for all you know, it might - to use your words - be a 'nice little money earner'.

Some of my clients are really fun to work with, but I don't want their sense of humour or perception of the site to be stretched that far. This is where issues such as site security and seriousness could evolve.

What's next? "Find a good restaurant near this outsourcer"...

We are not, and should not, become a 'bizarre bazaar', IMHO.

I saw them yesterday when I went to log in. Some were specific to Belgium. It doesn't add anything positive to the site and reduces it to looking like one of those sites that are out to make money as best they can, although I can't imagine it will deter job seekers.

Disable ads altogether Jan 16, 2009

Hi all,

I strongly believe that staff should reconsider the use (or enabling on the site) of these ads, and disable them/discontinue their use for good. This is just not in line with the profesional image the site wants to convey according to its mission.

(I've just alerted staff to this thread again.)

Best,
Steffen

I didn't know "those" ads were not supposed to be here Jan 16, 2009

I get them all the time between posts on these threads; I'm already used to scrolling them so that I don't have to look at them when I read the posts. Well, all the better if we can get rid of them.

Google ads can be fun though, when their guesses are just a little bit off the target. I used to get these dating ads all the time on Gmail when I got mail from a women's rights group mailing list - I was interested in women, yes, but...

I've never seen these ads, whether logged in or not, because I use Firefox + AdBlockPlus. I do agree, however, that they are certainly not improving the site's professional image. Looks like Google is causing a lot of problems these days ...
