Is it possible to separate the Video Games field from the Casino field?
I want to localize video games such as Assassin's Creed or Donkey Kong. I've played hundreds of video games. Do you realize the amount of research needed to write God of War? It's close to literature in fact.
I don't want to be contacted by outsourcers for casino poker bingo projects, just because I'm in the Video Games/Casino field.

Localising video games falls more into the literary category than in an economic activity like casinos.

On the other side, translating casinos/poker materials requires a specific competence and knowledge which not any literary/videogames translator has. In fact it's a very specific and detailed field where experience and specialization do matter, and a good translator in this field has to know many things about different countries legislation, bites of IT terminology, other than specific rules or any single casino game.
So, as a casino translator mainly (I also translate videogames and can recognize well the huge differences among these two things), I agree as well, and think that separation of these fields will benefit to both specialized branches of translators.

I often work in games localisation and I completely agree that Video Games and Casino are entirely different beasts that only rarely overlap — such as, say, when translating a poker game.
At the risk of derailing the topic a bit, though, I'd say the skills required for games localisation have more in common with screen translation (TV, cinema, etc.), subtitling and general software localisation than they do with literature. As much as I am an avid gamer, I can't help thinking that the plot in most games is far from sophisticated, with a few notable exceptions.
However, coming back on topic, yes. Video games should totally be a separate category and different from Casino. It is a great suggestion, in fact, and I think Avinash deserves credit for bringing it up.
