As the use of the - widely recognised to be incorrect - word "trainings" is still extant on the site, despite the assurance in 2008 that it was being fixed (here), I'd like to suggest a petition to the site staff that it be changed for "training courses".
This will answer the concerns of those ProZ users who find that "trainings" sticks in their throat on a daily basis. Meanwhile, this term can surely not be considered incorrect, even by those users who maintain that "trainings" is widely used in their particular variant of English.
I fully realise that the number of occurrences of this word on the site - and perhaps space constraints too - mean that this will be a complicated matter. However, as translators we deal with such complicated editing issues on a daily basis. Just because a modification will be time consuming and fiddly is no reason not to implement it. Indeed, I would personally be happy to pay to see the word altered.
Please therefore comment below to indicate your agreement with this suggestion.
Jane
Note: I fully expect to receive the same assurance that "something will be done" that was issued in 2008, with the same final result. But at least my conscience will be quiet, even though I will still find myself grinding my teeth daily over the wretched word.

Dear JaneD,
Thanks for taking the time to bring this up.
Most of the instances of the word "trainings" were removed. I can only spot two occurrences of the word now, and these will be removed. If you see any other instances of the word, please feel free to add them in the support request you have on this matter ( I have reopened it for you).
Thanks for your patience and also for helping us keep the site language correct.
Regards,

Oh dear... It was in fact an email I received earlier that made me grind my teeth today - I never thought about rechecking the site itself!
Well, at least it's going, anyway; thanks for the update Soledad!

While we're on this topic I would also like to drop the words "for new translators" from any training courses. These courses may also be attended by experienced translators who want a refresher or who wish to expand into different fields. I have been translating for ±15 years but on my profile I have legal terminology courses 'for new translators' (which were put there without my prior approval) - I am not happy with that.

I support Jane D's proposal that "trainings" be corrected to "training courses".

Why "training courses", which is redundant. Why not just "courses"? After all, what it a course for other than training or education of some kind?

Why not indeed? But if the staff are in the process of changing it to "training courses", let's just leave it at that!
