This RFE is inspired by this post:

The translator was contacted via her profile page. He claims to be Parisian, but his IP address resolves to Nigeria. Had the translator not checked the IP address manually, she may have been taken in by a scam.

So, here's my suggestion:

Let check the geographical location of the sender's IP address and include it in the post sent to a translator who is contacted via the profile page.

* Perhaps users should specifically choose to have this feature activated. This will go to ensure that translators are not fooled by false positives.
* I realise that not all IP addresses can be resolved to a geographic location.
* Geograpic IP resolving can be misleading, eg if a poster uses a vanity ISP in a different country, or if the poster relays his mail via a reseller ISP in a cheaper country.
* After a few months (or years, hopefully), scammers will figure out what is doing, and change tack.

Vetting of profile messages available Aug 19, 2007

Hi Samuel,
Not sure if you're aware that a related verification process is already in place - in your profile settings ("Email preferences"), you have the choice whether site staff should vet incoming profile messages.

Best regards,
