Profile Updater/Financial/Default rate per word: What does 'target' mean?

I understand 'Minimum' perfectly well: the minimum rate I can accept for a translation job.

But what is 'Target'?

Two purposes Jul 5, 2009

Quoting a "target rate" to a customer service two purposes:

1. It indicates roughly the price range you are offering. It is also your default rate. This quickly eliminates customers looking for much lower prices.

2. it indicates to the customer that there is scope for negotiation, whether upwards for a specialist translation or downwards. Only quote a target rate if you are willing to negotiate the price.
