dear all
during 4Q2010, I issued several quotes, I wanted to quote in Euros via the standard form for instance 0.07€, (of course I pressed the Euro button) and I noticed that the generated quote was US$0.07. I was very surprised because this was generating a big loss for me. I asked the Proz support before Christmas, but they didn't solve the problem.
As a result when I quote now I indicate my rate in the text, but on a presentation point of view it is very poor because the customer will prefer all the other quotes with their yellow rate.
Did anybody else meet the problem? otherwise I am using the quote form in a wrong way.

I've noticed something similar that if you put in a comma instead of a dot "the system" does not forward the price either (so 0,12 instead of 0.12) - Proz outsourcers always ask me what my rates are (but maybe they are just too lazy to read)...
(and the quoting system does not complain if I put in commas)

I just tested the quoting system using both Firefox and Chrome, and I am afraid I was not able to reproduce the issue you mention. When entering $0.05, for instance, and selecting "Euro" as currency, both rate and currency are saved, getting to the list of quotes outsourcers see just as they were specified.
Would you mind then testing this again and attaching to your support request a screenshot of each page you visit when following quoting steps? This will help me look into this further.
Thanks in advance,
Lucía

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Ed. Note that, in most parts of the site, rates should be entered in decimals (0.05 instead of 0,05). However, I was able to confirm that, when rates are not entered in decimals into the job quoting form, they are not saved.
I have referred this to internal development now so that a warning message is added to the job quoting form. In the meantime, just make sure you use a decimal point instead of a comma when entering your rates.
Kind regards,
Lucía

the comma is probably the cause of the problem!
Jan 24, 2011
thanks a lot Ed and Lucia; there is a 90% chance the problem comes from the comma instead of a dot when typing my rate. I'll be more careful next time!
kind regards
Marie

(and the quoting system does not complain if I put in commas)
that is the good suggestion,
is it possible to implement that at a low cost, Lucia?
thanks
Marie

I am checking with site developers different possibilities to solve this issue.
I will keep you posted.
Kind regards,
Lucía

...they're probably just hoping you'll lower it when you respond

no thanks but

no, thanks but the problem was clearly at quote text generation (after having filled the form).
since it happened to me several times, and I cannot remeber if I typed the Euro rate with a comma or a dot, I agree it is probably the source of the problem
