Dear Ben,
Changing the look of a profile to that extent would require a certain knowledge of html or other code. There are tutorials on the internet, and perhaps you could ask one of the owners of those profiles for advice if you can't find anything. But it is not part of the options or tools provided with a profile.

This is achievable with CSS in your About Me, by declaring a custom background attribute in a “style” tag. This is not documented anywhere, but it works, as long as you don’t have any customized tabs.
