Presumably sth is temporarily up: I have just got 671,324 hits for pneumotórax ES>EN (none of which seem to contain the term). I'll keep trying, but have already rebooted etc...

Search for "pneumotorax", not "pneumotórax".
As far as I can see, this word is absent in the ES>EN pair and appears only twice, in English to Italian and French to English pairs (you can use the "All languages to English" option).

btw, although this was not the exact purpose of my search, suitable translations would be "Pneumothorax" or "collapsed lung"!

I find the search function for Greek to English terms doesn't work very well at all.

I agree, Rachel. I've mentioned it more than once, as have other people. Months later nothing has been done.
It seems to affect any searches for words - in any language - which have any form of diacritic mark. Since all Greek words of two or more syllables have to have an accent it means that we can only search for monosyllabic words!

It doesn't work in Hebrew (at least Hebrew>English) at all. If I try searching for a term, say "התקשרות" (something which I know for a fact is in there many times over) - it either brings up nothing at all, or hundreds of entries with no connection to the term at all.
As we say in Hebrew, it's דפוק לגמרי
(Totally erm.....*faulty*....well....actually it's closer to another famous "F" word in English).

No idea where it got to: but I had posted this morning to say thank you to both David and Natalie for their advice.
Unfortunately the inverted commas idea doesn't seem to make any difference.
I always try with and without diacritics to allow for entries which have been misspelt in Spanish.
And of course, the reason nothing comes up for pneumotórax (well, apart from the 671,324 hits) is that it doesn't have a "p" in Spanish.
Quite a lot of egg on my face.

Many of us have noted for a long time that the ProZ.com term search function is not very helpful; two 'features' that constantly bother me are the fact one can't search for less than 3 letters, and the search operators are not very helpful — for example, just today I wanted to search for both words 'table' and 'same' in the same entry, but of course searching on +table +same threw up hundreds of entries containing either of those words!
For a long time now, I have been using Google to search within KudoZ — and even allowing for the fact that it might not necessarily have visited every single page, it still seems to retrun more (correct!) hits than term search does.
So I always now search for "my string" + Kudoz, and apart from the fact that it may turn up other language pairs (sometimes helpful anyway!), that does the trick for me; one could of course include the language in the search, but I've never bothered.
Noni, I wonder if your problem occurred because you had accidentally checked the box for also searching the Internet? I keep my search settings saved, and only check 3 out of the 6 possibilities.

I've had the same problem today searching for "déverrouillage" - despite checking exact term only and whole words only, it brought up 123,000 (or some such number) entries, most of which didn't contain the term! I'm sure this is happening more and more too, as others have noted. I've given up using it most of the time, which is a shame as it used to work well....

- yes, though you can ask a term consisting of two letters...
