I mean, each time I post something in a forum topic, if I want to go back to the first page of proz.com, for instance, only the forum pages appears. And if I go further back, I go to the site I was previously in.

So, after posting, I usually have to go to another site, google for instance, and then re-start proz.com page again.

Why does this happen?

Thanks in advance for any answer.
Ivana

Click on ProZ.com logo (top left) Oct 28, 2006

Ivana,

I am afraid I cannot explain the unexpected behaviour of the Back button, but if you click on the ProZ.com logo at the top left of any page (including, I believe, the page that appears after you post a forum contribution), you should be taken to the ProZ.com homepage directly.

Doesn't this work for you?

Endre

Lost my post Oct 28, 2006

Not only that but when I pushed the back button, I went back to the page where I entered the post and when I went back from there, my post was lost (not enterred).

Was your post really lost? Oct 28, 2006

This happened because your browser went back to a cached version of the page that had been stored on your computer *before* you wrote your post. If you had refreshed the page (usually by hitting F5 or clicking the appropriate browser button), the post should have appeared. Are you sure it really got lost?

In general, I believe it is not a good idea to use the back button after sending something to the Internet (posting in a forum, filling in a form, etc) because under certain circumstances (in particular if you hit Forward again) this can lead to the information you have entered – a KudoZ answer, a forum post, etc. – to be submitted a second time.

Endre

The proz logo worked fine Oct 28, 2006

And I went to the homepage again!

But I'm so used to use the back button of my mouse... and it works in other sites...

Thank you for your tip Endre.

The back button Oct 28, 2006

Mine stopped working with Proz last week, but it works everywhere else.
If I look at a Kudoz question and then hit the back button, it says the page is no longer available. I have to hit "home".
Something's wrong!
Catherine

Same here Oct 29, 2006

It's something I've always wanted to ask but never had the nerve to, because I thought it had to do with my browser's settings. Thanks for pointing this out!

Solution: open Proz.com in new window first Oct 30, 2006

This never happens to me, because I don't visit Proz.com's pages in the same window that I have or had viewed other pages in. I open a new window for Proz.com.

What browser do you use, by the way?

Let me test it for you (Opera 8.54) Oct 30, 2006

I'm testing it... hold on...

Edited: no problem with Opera 8.54... I can go back to the Proz.com homepage after I've posted here, using the browser's backbutton.

Let me test it for you (Firefox 1.5.0.7) Oct 30, 2006

Let me test it for you again... hold on...

Edited: no problem with Firefox 1.5 either. Perhaps it's just your browser...?

Let me test with this new open window Oct 30, 2006

I'll make the test right now.

On my previous posting I went back after posting and it went to the page where we can write and didn't go back further.

Now I opened this new window for proz.com

IT WORKED :) Oct 30, 2006

Yet, I think it's strange because with other pages if the page is no longer available it states so, and with proz.com it just get stuck and won't go back further.

But well, I've learnt 2 new things with this forum.

Thank you.

Best,
Ivana
