I double checked this and it is not really a bug. In order to show the time zone to visitors you must make your time zone information visible in the 'Contact' tab. I will look into putting a visibility toggle option right next to the time zone label (like with the member since date).

Hi Justin,

Shouldn't "Local Time" be labelled "Translator's Local Time"?

Automatical adjustment to Daylight Savings Time would be great.

Gerard

Project History tab Apr 5, 2006

Would it be possible to change the format of the project history information so that the information is separated by gridlines, similar to the blueboard layout? I think that would make it easier to read at a glance.

Keep up the good work!

"Medical" and "Pharmaceutical" STILL not options on the referrals drop down list! Apr 6, 2006

I've already commented on this twice: the referrals feature (which I think is an excellent idea) will be completely useless for me if I can't indicate that the person I'm referring is a specialist in medical translations! Can you *please, please* fix this!

How to add custom tabs? Apr 6, 2006

Justin wrote:

Hi Justin,

Sorry, but I cannot find the option to add custom tabs. Could you tell me how and where in the profile page to do it?

Many thanks!
Özden

Thanks for pointing this out! I have fixed the problem, you should now be able to see all fields when adding a referral.

Hi Ozden,

You can find the custom tab settings page under the 'Other settings' section in the 'Settings' tab. Hope this helps.

Best Regards,
Justin

It says I offer services that I don't offer Apr 6, 2006

not sure what's wrong here - when I mouseover the 'French to English' below my image, it tells me I do interpreting, including simultaneous and chuchotage - is this because I've filled something in incorrectly at some point, or is it a bug? My old-style profile doesn't say this as far as I know.

Err, but I have another problem now: I cannot add Google Talk. I enter my user name as I do to login gTalk, but the icon won't show in my profile. What am I doing wrong? (I tried entering the user name both with and without the @gmail.com extension added.)

Thanks in advance for any help about this

Best regards,

Further row customization Apr 7, 2006

I am not sure if it is possible technically, but maybe it is...

As (most of) the information is now shown in a grid, maybe it would be possible to manipulate the rows even further? I had in mind two (three, actually) more buttons:

show/hide - this is already possible, but only in the "Contacts" tab. It would be useful to hide rows which are not used (e.g. I do not have a portfolio - no need to display that row...). If this is taken further, the rows might have three s

If this is taken further, the rows might have three states: always show, show only when expanded (with the plus button) and always hide. If this is not clear, I can explain in more detail...

up/down - to move the given row. This would allow users to arrange the rows to display the most important (in their opinion) information first. If the "freeform" area is treated as another row, it might also be shifted where it could be seen better.

Just a suggestion, I realize it might not be viable...

More bugs Apr 8, 2006

BUGS:
1) When you hover over the "+" in "Rates" you see a text "Click here to expand the PROJECT HISTORY section".

2) When you update the availability calendar and apply the changes, the calendar at the left is not updated with the new values, you need to apply the changes a second time before the calendar is refreshed.

3) Local time is 2 hours off - it shows 1:15 a.m & it is here 3:15 (summer time at GMT+1!)

SUGGESTIONS:
Since they were not considered in the other forum, I list them again:

NUMBER OF LANGUAGES:
The limit to the five languages before you have to click on "More" seems too low - though it is true that agencies that have twenty or thirty languages might be excessive, in my particular case I'd like to go to at least eight and perhaps a maximum of ten language pairs. I feel I may lose business when people have a glance at the list & don't click at "more". Same with the rates listing.

AVAILABILITY CALENDAR:
Another suggestion about the availability calendar. Excellent feature, but it becomes quite work-intensive when you have a major project to mark a couple of weeks or even months as "not available" or "partially available" by clicking the days one by one. Could it be possible to mark the availability and apply it to a whole week and possibly a whole month at the same time?

GLOSSARIES:
Also consider the possibility to indicate, when you hover the mouse over the link to a glossary, to indicate how many terms it contains (similarly in the way that it shows the Kudoz points). Obviously, a translator may have twenty glossaries with ten words each, yet another translator may have only two glossaries with ten thousand words each, and the person viewing the profiles might be mislead to believe that the first one has entered more terms...

Good job! Apr 10, 2006

Hey Justin! First, let me congratulate you on a great job. I see that this project is done in a very straightforward way - here is what we think you wanted, try it out and tell us if you like it. I also really like the fact that we all know who is the one person working on this - we can directly tell him what we would change - and thank him directly for a job well done!

Here are my comments:

Several features were added that I find amazing. The availability feature is great! I would suggest an improvement on that one, though. If it still works like the old feature, than that means that after a certain time, the availabilities will "time out". How about sending an e-mail to members the day before their availabilities time out? I am sometimes so busy for such long periods of time that I don't go to the site for several weeks sometimes, and I realize that I have to set my availability long after it actually times out.

I also love the fact that I can very precisely determine how much or how little of my information I want to display (in the Contact section, for example). The personalized display as well as the tabs are great. I guess the tabs are a good deal, as they allows us to have a website-like level of customization, without having to make up a website. I don't take advantage of the free website I get with my membership, but only because I don't have the time, as I am a perfectionist and I know that it will take weeks of tweaking to get exactly what I want. I never get around to doing it, but now, I can put some morer info into my profile without having to really format it - it all integrates really well with the rest.

Just a little hello to people wondering about minimum/target rates: target rates are actually the rates you offer, they ARE your real rates. Minimum rates are rather the parameter by which the system manages to determine whether you can apply for a job or not (as mentioned earlier, you can't apply for jobs if the rate proposed by the outsourcer is lower than your minimum rate). For example, everybody proofreads for a lower rate than their regular translation rate. This simply allows you to apply for those jobs. By the way, I already proposed in a forum some time ago that, as service providers, translators should be able to offer rates, and not forced to accept or refuse rates offered by the outsourcers. I am sure that if we turned this around, some people would get paid better... Whatever happened to that post...

All in all, I find this new profile great! It was fun updating my profile also. Just because I took a fresh look at my profile, I found some things that I didn't set up right even in the old version. Seeing my profile in its new packaging brough out the parts of it that I didn't take good care of. This is already great!

Thanks, Justin!

Profile updates... Apr 10, 2006

Hi all,

It should show up now, I was just missing an image

Hi Jabberwock, I really like some of your suggestions (especially the dragging of rows to where you want them). I will add your suggestions to our potential TODO list for the next profile release.

Hi Ramon,

1) When you hover over the "+" in "Rates" you see a text "Click here to expand the PROJECT HISTORY section".

Thanks for pointing this out, this bug has been fixed.

2) When you update the availability calendar and apply the changes, the calendar at the left is not updated with the new values, you need to apply the changes a second time before the calendar is refreshed.

Thanks, I will be fixing this issue in the near future.

Local time is 2 hours off - it shows 1:15 a.m & it is here 3:15 (summer time at GMT+1!)

It looks like you did not set your time zone in the 'Contact' tab. I added an edit icon to the left of the time zone that will send you to the correct place to edit your time zone. For now, since we have no good way of telling when a user's timezone is in daylight savings time or not, I recommend just setting your timezone to GMT + or - 1 hour to make the time zone display your local time correctly...

I like your other suggestions, and will add them to our potential TODO list for the next profiles release.

You must edit your time zone in the 'Contact' tab in edit mode, try clicking the edit icon next to 'Local time' in owners view to be taken to the area where you can edit your time zone.

And again, thank you all for your valuable feedback!

Best Regards,
Justin

A request Apr 11, 2006

Hi Justin,

We have a "Your feedback is requested" link above the new profile. Sometimes, while working on the new profile I encounter a problem or just have a brilliant! idea, but when I click that link to see if I can find a solution or share my problem, I am taken to the previous -now locked- forum started on this. Could you please link that "Your feedback is requested" line to this forum? Thank you once again.

Regards,
Özden
