Dear Translators,
One of our clients has a difficulty of implementing the characters on Mac who has given us a translation project of their product catalogue into Arabic language . Our translator used Tahoma formatting on word document which we are sending direct to our client for application on Mac. We are not using Macintosh in our company so we couldn't really discovered where actually the problem is. But they called us and as they have conveyyed : when they are opening our word documents on Macintosh all the characters were shown as  and so they have tried to change the format by copying the same text in TexEdit so that they could show the Arabic characters again. However this time the direction of the Arabic characters changing from right to left and fonts are changing. What could the reason be? We would appreciate for your advices,
Thank you
Sinem Perek

office mac does not support Arabic Jan 26, 2011

Mac Office applications do not have support for Arabic script.
open file with TexEdit - not copy - and choose right direction.

(Microsoft has announced on their website that they not support Arabic in Office for Mac because “there will not be full right-to-left support for languages such as Arabic and Hebrew. We understand that some of our customers need support for RTL languages, and we’ll continue to prioritize our language support based on market opportunity and technical complexity. At this time, we don’t have any updates on languages or features beyond Office 2011.”)

Indesign Middle Eastern Jan 26, 2011

Try using Indesign Middle Eastern instead of the word file, and it does fully support Arabic (Right to Left languages).

Hope that works....
