Sorry guys, don't have a Russian keyboard on the computer I am writing from. My question is: do people in Russia use the word aксидент? It is quite prevalent among the Russians living in the States, but I'm not sure if it's a Russian variation of Spanglish, or whether the word is now part of the language used and accepted in Russia. If it is in use, does it have the same broad meaning as the word "accident" has in English? Thanks.

Например, моё любимое слово "мерчандайзер". Или еще "хаб", "транзакция". От русских "американцев" слышал: "я заиншурила машину" и т.д. Вопрос: А зачем (точнее, на хрена?) вам сдался этот "аксидент"??? Огромный выбор совершенно точных русских (причем, если надо - коренных русских) эквивалентов. А если серьезно, то конечно НЕТ!!! | | | Sophia Lansky Local time: 15:08 Russian to English + ... TOPIC STARTER answer to mk_lab's question | May 8, 2005 |
Вопрос: А зачем (точнее, на хрена?) вам сдался этот "аксидент"??? The reason is that it is a part of a jail interview, conducted in Russian, in which a person uses that word. If it is used as an English word within an otherwise Russian phrase, there is a different way to denote it in the translation.

[Edited at 2005-05-08 19:38] This guy is probably "new Russian", or somebody like it... Sure, this is very-very-very dirty transliteration of english into russian emigrants slang.

[Edited at 2005-05-08 19:40] The rule of thumb in court translation is that if an English word is used in a Russian phrase, it's typed in caps and in quotation marks, denoting that it's an English word. If it's simply a russian word - it's translated (in this case - accident) without any demarkation or comment. This is why I needed to know if the word in Russian became a part of a day-to-day language. | | | Sophia Lansky Local time: 15:08 Russian to English + ... [Edited at 2005-05-08 20:03] The story is that guy met with an accident(rough russian transliteration is "аксидент"). It's all. But his russian is highly distorted by emigrant's habbits, so he prefer slang transliteration of american words to actual russian language.

Ну тогда придется подождать, в России поздно уже и вообще: все (наверно) заняты праздником. Лично я все-таки восприняла бы это как английское слово и отметила бы его в переводе соответственно. Н. P.S. Я просто в шоке от того, что наискала на яндексе. | | | Natalie Poland Local time: 00:08 Member (2002) English to Russian + ... Moderator of this forum SITE LOCALIZER

Если бы он сказал, что перед этим "аксидентом" он "не заиншурил свою машину", вы бы как перевели слово "заиншурил"? Ведь не посчитали бы это за русское слово? Я думаю, что и с аксидентом нужно поступить так же: не трактовать это слово как русское, а просто представить в переводе адекватное английское accident. Как мне кажется, никто не посмеет упрекнуть вас в неточности. | | | Pages in topic: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Употребляется ли в русском языке слово "аксидент"?
