It is a new kind of scam, but it might be a worldwide scam soon.

The FBI says if you receive one of these e-mail death threats, file a report online at the Internet Crimes Complaint Center.

Have a great day everyone,

Monika

It's getting really ugly Jan 13, 2009

I can't believe people are willing to go this far to extort money. What's next?

I really hope the international authorities will start taking such scams more seriously. In Canada, people get imprisoned for death threats, and logically, if this mail was sent to 1000 addresses, that's 1000 counts of death threat - enough to lock the person up for life.

Even though I wouldn't have fallen for it, to me, this comes down to the same as if someone showed up at my doorstep and threatened me in person. When will the authorities admit that an e-mail address is the same as a phone number or a street address? People should have the right to privacy, even on the Web.

I hope the offenders are suitably punished, even if just to warn others.
