I have a set of XLIFF files that I would like to

a) use as a feed for a translation memory
b) use to recreate updated versions after editing TM

Please note the files are already bilingual, so sticking them into TagEditor ("TagEditor can do XLIFF files") is useless. I have tried other venues (OmegaT), but I met with the same kind of misunderstanding as in the case of TagEditor.

I may be forced to write something mysélf in Word VBA, but being lazy and practical, I check with my esteemed colleagues first. If there's nothing , oh well, then I'll add one more function to my personal version of PlusToyz Plug-in for Word.

TiA

PS: It's the compete set of localized (ENG-> SLV) ProZ files, so this is all pure/100%/uncut pro-bono stuff. Help very much welcome!

You can create TMX files from Translated XLIFF files with the script transolution/tmx/xliff2tmx.py

http://transolution.python-hosting.com/

Don't know if it will work with the versions of XLIFF and TMX you have or want.

Download from:

Have the same skeptical mindset. Thanks anyway!

Hi Vito,

Get Swordfish from http://www.maxprograms.com and install it. Open your XLIFF files and use the "Export File as TMX" option from Task menu to create TMX files. Edit the TMX files and then import them into a clean TM database. Use the "Remove all Translations" option from Tasks menu and then "Apply TM to all Segments" followed by "Accept and Approve all 100% Matches". This will generate an upated XLIFF file from your edited TM.

Hope this helps,
Rodolfo

Thank you - it is getting closer Apr 2, 2008

I did it for the first few files and here's my experience:

i) it does it
ii) for some files it refuses the service (as the other converters have done so far). The bilingual files, used in ProZ (Soledad, you reading?) seem to be a "nearly-xlf-but-not-100%"-type.

Thanks anyway - looks like it is I will have to edit the offenders before I can proceed.

MemoQ will soon do the job May 6, 2008

MemoQ 2.4 will support XLIFF, and MQ also exports TMs as TMX.

Bests,
Gergely
