Trados 2007+MS Office 2007 + MS Windows Vista=? Thread poster: Alexey Ivanov

Can anyone share experience about using this combination?
I just bought a new laptop with Wndows Vista and also bought MS Office 2007 but before installing them onto my desktop I want to clear my doubs about compatibility. I have heard that Vista works all right with Office 2003 but some people say it is slow with Office 2007.
I am particularly interested in the trio as a whole.

I have this exact combination, and do not have any problems. The programs seem to be compatible with one another.
I have Trados 2007 + MS Office 2007 + Windows Vista Business.
The only thing I have trouble with, since I have acquired Word 2007, is PractiCount.

Usually, I use TW4Win: 'open/get(Alt+Home)' and 'Set/Close Next Open(Alt+Num +)'

Many thanks for your input. And what about the speed? - see Mihea's comment.
I know it depends mostly on the hardware, but it should not be a concern in my case, because I have a 2.4 gHz processor and 4 Mb of RAM.
I see that you like me also favour the most advanced solutions.

SDL Trados 2007 is fully compatible with Microsoft Word 2007 and Windows Vista.
Please make sure that you install the latest updates with the software.

Hi there
I'm working with XP + Trados 2007 (SP2) + Word 2003 on my desktop computer,
and with Vista + Trados 2007 (SP2) + Word 2003 and 2007 on my laptop.
Though I had my share of problems (usually spell checking), everything works fine - except that with Word 2007 "close and get next sentence" takes more time; I'd say it's borderline.

I found close and get next segment was so much slower with Word 2007 on my laptop that I gave up and went back to 2003 when using Workbench. But many other things are also slow - it only has 1MB of RAM which is nowhere near enough to run Vista (I'm getting that fixed very soon). With the RAM you've got it should be OK.
The other problem I had is that the Trados add-in kept disabling itself for no good reason and having to be retrieved through Word Options, which was rather irritati... After trying several times to make it work I was told that these programs were not compatible. Not sure why it didn't work for me when it seems to work for others.
I had the Windows 2007 trial version installed after I bought my Vista laptop.
I am back using Windows 2003 and am in a bind because I cannot find German proofing tools for that version.

Hi Alexey,
I only have 2 Mb of RAM, I didn't know you could get 4 Mb now!
Anyhow, the speed is fine, at 2 Mb, under normal conditions. Everything slows up, however, under extreme pressure, i.e. when the computer has been switched on for a long time. Sometimes it already slows up, and I need to re-boot, around the 12-hour mark.

I work with the same combination and the only problem I have noticed so far is slow Trados (other programs seems to work fine).
Do you recommend to use Office 2003 to speed up the Trados, or this issue is not related to this problem?
Also what kind of updates did you mean?

If you did not upgrade to 4 Mb RAM yet, take into account the following: Windows (Any 32-bit Windows system, XP or Vista, does not matter) can see only 3 Mb RAM. Only 64-bit systems can see 4 Mbs, BUT: very few applications will work in the 64-bit environment. So, upgrade to 3 and that will be maximum needed. I installed 4 Mb RAM not knowing this, and only when I checked my RAM and saw that only 3 Mb were available I became worried thinking something was wrong with my computer and asked a specialist who explained the situation to me.
I also found out that SDL Trados 2007 is somewhat slow with "close, get next" command - the manufacturers admit this, though claiming this is due to a fault in Microsoft Office 2007 Word, which allegedly was promised by Microsoft to be solved by the middle of 2008.

As the asker of this question probably I am not in a position to advise anything, but in the course of my investigation I found that SDL Trados advise exactly that on the company site: use MS Office 2003 until a patch fixing that problem is released (they promise mid 2008)/

But in the real life, it depends of the system.
E.g. it doesn't work on IBM/Lenovo notebooks.
