Ever since downloading the latest MultiTerm Desktop and the subsequent patch, while Word 2003 loads the Multiterm7 template from the Templates folder in Multiterm7, trying to select a termbase from the MT toolbar or menu results in the above mentioned Connection Error. Under these conditions, the search and submission commands are all greyed out.

Given:
-------

OS: MS WINDOWS XP pro sp2
Windows Firewall (same behavior under enabled and disabled firewall)
MS Office 2003 Basic Edition (Build 11.5604.5606)
MultiTerm 7.5.0.444 (Build 448) This is part of MultiTerm Desktop, for which I have a license

NB: Following software was downloaded and installed from the Trados site:
SDLMutltiterm 2007 Desktop SP1 NoPF
-ditto- Update

Please if someone could address this I would highly appreciate it.

Many thanks,

Hikmat Faraj

Do you have any other third-party active templates running? May 9, 2008

For example Abbyy Fine Reader, or, what would be the most certain cause for your problem, a PDF Maker?

Before you start analysing:
Close all aplications.
First go to SDL International program group, locate there a program called "Regster SDL Trados..." and let it run.
Than go to installations folder of Multiterm (usually c:\program files\sdl international\multiterm 2007, locate a program called #_SelfRegister_Desktop.bat and let it run by double clicking it.

You can also go there to Templates folder and copy the Word template from there to Word startup folder (Multiterm installer does copy it to Office startup folder, where I would remove it).

If all thos does not help, you will really have a template in the background, which may disturb the MT template.
In Word, go to Tools, Templates and add-ons and check which templates are loaded.
Unload all but Trados and Multiterm, try then. If it works, you know what was faulty.

Regards
Jerzy

Problem is resolved! May 9, 2008

Dear Jerzy,

Thank you so much for taking the time and effort in providing a solution.

While waiting for replies to my question, I had uninstalled all MT applications, then downloaded the original (371 MB) MultiTerm executable from Trados. I installed it, and the problem disappeared. I don't know why or how, but it went away, and I am now able to use the MultiTerm menu from within Word.

Thanks again.

Hikmat

Take a look into SDL Trados KB May 10, 2008

go to talisma.sdl.com and search for article 1315. That should work.

Cheers
