Previous request not yet finished Thread poster: Muriel Louchart

Hello all, I have just started to work on a 30K document when I get this problem with Workbench. When I click on the proper icon on Trados menu to get to the next segment, I get this at the bottom of the Workbench window "Previous request not yet finished". Do you know how to fix this and how I can continue my work with Trados?? Thank you all Regards, Muriel

Hello Muriel, You could try searching for "Previous request not yet finished" in the Forums. There is lots of advice but the proposed solutions don't work for everybody. Try some of them and see. No-one really knows the answer, I feel. I had the same problem last week and it turned out to be insoluble - I had to complete the translation manually outside Trados. On a previous occasion, I overcame it by exporting the TM to a new memory, but not this time. Try checking Bookmarks and Field Codes on the 'View' tab under Word > Options - it might reveal some hidden text that prevents the TU from closing properly. I wish you luck but you may never find out why it behaves like that, and you may conclude, if you haven't already, that Trados is a shocking rip-off when it can't cope with a basic Word document. ▲ Collapse
You are doing a single document of 30,000 words? | Jun 19, 2008 |
Then I am not surprised that the "previous request is not yet finished". You need to break up that document into MUCH smaller documents and then stick the parts together again at the end once you are finished. That will solve the problem nicely, I think. Astrid

Hello Muriel, This error occurs when you try to open a segment for translation and a previous segment is still open. Please make sure all segments are closed before attempting to open a new. Can you close the document or do you get a similar message? Are you using Word or TagEditor to translate this document? Which versions of Word and Translators Workbench are you using? Many Thanks, Gareth Powell

This error occurs when I am in a segment and I want to go to the next one. I cannot close it either with or without saving it. The same message still appears on Workbench windows. The original document is 76 pages long, 30K, with a TOC and many "MERGEFORMAT" throughout the doc. May this be the source of the problem? The agency which assigned me the job is dealing with the problem too, but has found no solution so far. Thank you Muriel

Sorry I forgot to say that I use Word (impossible to use TagEditor = error message: track changes need to be accepted or rejected. Even after that, it is impossible to open file with tageditor) and Word 2003 + Workbench 2006 First time ever I have this problem. Regards, Muriel

Dear Muriel, still, TagEditor is the way to go, imho. Workbench + Word is a very unstable combination, TagEditor runs much smoother and you avoid a lot of problems. The "track changes" error is a popular one, a forum search will produce solutions. Best regards, Erik
Hello Muriel, Thank you for your reply. I recommend that you turn your track changes off, or accept, in Word and then try again. Also, I would recommend that you translate the document using TagEditor, converting the file to ttx format first. To enable TagEditor to work with track changes, please follow these instructions: You need to adapt the Word_1_0_0_0.xml file found in the TT folder of your Trados Installation folder (C:\Program Files\SDL Inter... To do so please open the file in a text editor and change the following line from: "NonAcceptedOrRejectedChangesHandling"Default"/NonAcceptedOrRejectedCh angesHandling" to "NonAcceptedOrRejectedChangesHandling"Ignore"/NonAcceptedOrRejectedCha ngesHandling" I hope this helps.
