Hi all,

I searched the forum archive for posts regarding MS Publisher (.pub) files, but the posts are rather old and the workflow perhaps outdated.

Does anyone know if the current version of Trados TagEditor (I have version 8.2) supports translation of .pub files? I have two files here that need to be translated from German into Polish, and a Trados TM that I would like to be able to use.

Thanks for any tips you might have,
Alexandra

Great link! Jun 24, 2008

Thank you so much for this link! I will try that right now to see if going to html and back is a feasible option. But it sounds promising...

Use "edit article in MS Word" Jun 24, 2008

I'm not sure if TE supports .pub files, but I was able to use WB 7.0 with .pub files. Here is how I did:

1. Open .pub file in Publisher.
2. On the menu, select "Edit" - "Edit article in Microsoft Word" (something like this. Mine is a Chinese version)
3. Then the .pub file will open in Word, where you can work with your Trados TM.

The disadvantage is that you have to clean up page by page, using the cleanup Macro in Word.

Necco's website Jun 24, 2008

In fact it was my solution And I have tested it several times.

But there are many good solutions and tips for other file formats at http://www.necco.ca/dv/index.htm

Website bookmarked Jun 24, 2008

Yep, I bookmarked this Tips & Tricks collection already! You never know what else might pop up in the future.

I will try the route with html first, and if that doesn't work then I might have resort to the Word workflow. Though with Polish the Word workflow might be a bit of a hassle, especially because I don't know what exact setup the translator will have (I am not translating myself, I am "just" the project manager). I might have to deal with character corruption etc. that way, and I really want to avoid that.
