Hello everyone,

I am in the middle of a large job and all of a sudden Workbench is no longer opening.
I am using Trados 8.0 (on Windows XP) and until yesterday everything was running smoothly.
When trying to open Workbench this morning, the following error message popped up:

"An error occurred while trying to verify the license. Please check the installation and try again. Translator’s Workbench will now close."

I checked the license (no apparent problems) and un-/reinstalled EVERYTHING (all SDL/Trados files). Yet, the problem persists.

I am starting to panick a little now and would appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks,
Petra

Things are now getting worse: I just tried to open Sydnery and got the rror message "The Applikation konnte nicht initialisiert werden". Help, please!!

Restart laptop Jun 30, 2008

Hello,

I usually restart my laptop and then the message doesn't appear any more.
In my case, the message appears when the workbench is working/already open (eventhough I don't see it).
I usually close all the applications and restart my laptop.

I guess probably you already did it, but if you havn't just try...

Good luck!

I tried that ... Jun 30, 2008

Thank you for replying, Briski.
Restarting the laptop was the first thing I tried. No result.
I have now given the drives a good clean, uninstalled and reinstalled everything, checked the license... Nothing.
I checked the SDL knowledge base, and... Nothing.
This is so frustrating...

Try registering... Jun 30, 2008

Hello,

You may need to register your new SDL Trados 2007 files to Windows by running the following file:

Please go to Start -> All Programs -> SDL International -> SDL Trados 2007 -> Trados and then run the "Register SDL Trados 2007” .bat file. If you are using Windows Vista then you will need to right click on "Register SDL Trados 2007" and select "Run as Administrator" from the menu.

Please do this whenever you are switching from using one version of Trados to using SDL Trados 2007.

Also, this message occurs if you are running the SDL Trados freelance version on a network with other Trados users. This is because the freelance version is not designed for this purpose; this would require the professional version.

I hope this helps.

Many Thanks,

Gareth Powell

Registering did not improve the situation; no network Jun 30, 2008

Dear Gareth,

I received your message and immediately registered - to no avail!

I am using Trados freelance not on a network, i.e. I am the sole (registered) user of laptop and software.

I am starting to panick now... Just realised how much I depend on Trados running smoothly!

P.

You should try it on another PC Jun 30, 2008

If it works, the trouble maker might be the hardware.

Do you mean "Activated"? My license manager shows "Activate online" and "View activated licenses".
Another question: have you upgraded to SP2?

Activated and 'tested' Jun 30, 2008

Hi Nicolas,

The license has been both activated and tested (a function available in the license manager. I suppose it just checks whether the license is still valid and properly connected/linked to the applications).

And yes, i have installed SP2.

I am now contemplating wiping my HD clean and trying install EVERYTGHING on the computer starting from scratch, i.e. right from the operating system, as I have run out of other options. This is oh SO frustrating!

Still hoping from suggestings from prozians from other time zones

P.

Yes, the hard way... Feb 6, 2009

Hi b79:

Well, yes. I replaced the entire machine.
After endless test and checks it turned out that my laptop had simply reached the end of the line. After five failed warranty repair attempts by Acer (!) a local IT guy found that HD and motherboard and connection between the above were pretty much gone, wreaking havoc among my software. As the laptop was already 3 years old, I decided to replace it with a Toshiba.
The good people of SDL were very helpful and restored my license so I could install Trados on the new machine.

Sorry b79, I am aware that this is not the answer you were hoping for...

Regards,
P
