Hi,

I am currently working on a document, and I came across the phrase "Language structure practice". Trados decided to segment it as "Language structure" and "practice". This is a problem, because in Arabic "practice" must come before "Language structure". So, I thought the only way to solve the problem would be to join the two subsequent segments. Any idea how to do that?

TIA

In this case Jul 29, 2008

you press ctrl + alt together and hit the down arrow. This works in both tageditor and workbench/word.

A customized shortcut key combination Jul 29, 2008

Should I do that while any of the two segments is open, or with both closed?

Besides, there is any command I could choose from the menu instead, because I already have a customized shortcut for "Set Close Open Next" using Alt + down. So would that cause a confusion?

When you come to a segment, which shall not end where Trados segmented it, keep it open and use the command "Expand segment" (or the shortcut provided before).
However, this is only possible, if the segments are not separated by a paragraph mark. In such case you will need to close the segment, which is too short, and remove the paragraph mark.

Please refer also to Trados help, where joining and splitting segments is described in a good understandable way.

it works! Oct 12, 2008

As someone who has been 'struggling' with this for ages, I finally realized that the paragraph mark is the culprit. Thanks Jerzy!
