Hypothetically speaking, given a fresh install of Trados and a project with lots of specialised tech vocabulary, what kind of productivity can I achieve on a big project with say 100 000 words?
How many words could I possibly translate per hour in the best of circumstances, on average in that big project? (just hypothetically)

Trados is not a magic wand. Apart from your computer power and configuration, therefore how quickly Trados moves from one TU to the next, productivity will depend upon:
(1) either your typing speed OR your skill in using Dragon in combination with Trados;
(2) how extensive your Multiterm termbases that you have built up over time are, and how well you have the settings optimised for the language(s) in question;
(3) your personal knowledge of the specialised tech vocabulary concerned: do you have a lot of research to do, to build a new termbase first, or do you know the specialised terminology in your head? If you have to start from scratch, do you also have Multiterm Extract?;
(4) your expertise in translating anyway, which increases over time.
You need to check out for yourself how many words you can translate per hour, given the language pairs in question and the above factors.

100.000 words is not always necessarily 100.000 words. There are a couple of factors you should check out before starting on the porject.
It speaks for itself that you gain speed in highly repetitive texts, but Trados may actually even slow you down in less repetitive texts. Also: do you have to start from scratch or is there an existing TM? The analysis will give you some information about what to expect. Apart from that, it depends on your typing an/or dicating skills.
