Hi there,
I´m facing a problem out of nowhere as it seems.

(Windows XP SP2, MultiTerm 7.1.0.361, Trados Workbench 7.1.0.719)

When I try to add an entry into a termbase (F3), I can enter the terms and close the terms windows. After klicking on save (F10) the terms are stored, but MultiTerm crashes each time.

I get the error message

I reinstalled MultiTerm and the Workbench, but the problem persists. I addition Workbench doesn´t recognise the MultiTerm 7 instance anymore.

This workbench error message is:
===========================================
MultiTerm 7: Cannot Create
The selected Term Information Provider retuned the following error: (-22147467259): Unknown error
===========================================

Honestly I do not understand all that.
Because reinstallation doesn´t change anything to the better, it might not be a Trados but a Java problem, but ...??

Does anybody know something about that?
Thanks in advance
Nick

It's a MT problem but, you're right, it's related to Java.

Unlike well designed Java software (e.g. Swordfish) who can work with any Java version posterior to the version specified as prerequisite, Multiterm (or rather some MT components) work (or can be initialized) ONLY with the Java version provided in the installation package (in your case, 1.4.2_08).

The problem is due to the fact the MT installer checks the installed Java version is equal or greater than the version provided in the package.
So, if you have a newer version, the needed Java build is not installed.

If you have another (newer) Java versions on your machine, uninstall them and run the Java 1.4.2_08 setup provided with MT.

Normally, it's not necessary to reinstall MT (nothing sure).

After you run all the MT components you can imagine, you can reinstall newer Java builds you need.

HTH.

Cheers
GG

Hi Grzegorz
thank you very much for your reaction.
As you said, I did deinstall my Java versions, i found a Java 1.4.2_08 on the Sun website (not the one provided with MT), but the problem is still the same ...

Would the Java file source be a problem. Where do I find the version provided with MT. Not on the SDL download page, do I?

Thanks in advance
Nick

When you unpack the MT setup file, you can find the Java package in the ISSSetupPrerequisites directory.
But I think it will be the same file you got from Sun.

In this case. try to reinstall MT.
Remember to restart your PC after every (de)install operation.

Prpbably t will be necessary to clean up the registry hive related to MT.

The MT stuff may be very hard to diagnose

It is big brother microsoft Sep 17, 2008

Thanks for the help. Now I do know much more about Java than I did before ... and razzmatazzed all my term databases

All that to figure out that the problem was the installation of

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 Beta.

That seemed to be a fine program, but it isn´t for MT users. This is just to inform the community.

Cheers
Nick

Hi there,
I still have this problem. I did reinstall the programs and registered them both, but it did not help.
There is a link to the screenshots for reference: www.wortlaut-translations.de/trad.jpg

Thanks for any support.
regards
Jan

This worked for me Mar 15, 2009

http://por.proz.com/forum/sdl_trados_support/35450-trados_7_and_multiterm_7_error[null]-page2.html#891077

Please follow these steps in order to see if your problems stop occurring.

1) Please go to Start à Programs à SDL Trados 7 and click on ‘Register SDL Trados 7 Freelance’.
A MS-DOS screen will open and you will have to wait till it closes.
2) Then please open your TRADOS Workbench.
3) Go to the menu Options.
4) Select ‘Term Recognition Options and on the "Settings" tab please deactivate the option "Run terminology recognition in the background".
5) Close the TRADOS Workbench and reopen it to see if this solves your problem.
