Hello,

I am trying to export a EN-ES translation memory into .txt format in order to use this file for a glossary program (Xbench).

However, the .txt file shows the Spanish characters corrupted.

Does this problem have a smart solution? Changing manually the corrupted characters would take too much time.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Carmen

PS: I am using Trados 6.5.

Carmen, you have to describe that corruption a little bit. The best if you do some screenshot. There is a lot of different characters corruptions and we have to know which one it is. maybe characters are not corrupted at all, maybe it's a matter of display only (for example Notepad on English regional settings will not display properly characters if the file is single byte Central European one).

Thanks, Radek

I can't find a way to upload a file with my post, so I will just copy-paste a part of the file with what I call "corrupted characters" (please note the logest sentence in the middle):

Ok, two characters instead of one proper.
It's usuall "utf8 > single byte" corruption but quite strange for TM exports from 6.5 :/

Do you see those segments properly via Maintenence window?

Radek

PS. what software do you use to look into your exported files? Just Noterpad?

TM seems fine, problem is in exported file Oct 9, 2008

Hello again, Radek

Yes, I see the characters properly via the Maintenance window...

I am using Notepad to view the file, and I dont work "directly" with this type of file, but the problem is: when I import this txt file into Xbench (a program to create glossaries) I get the corresponding glossary entry corrupted in the same way as the txt file.

So I can not export the memory for any other program, I guess...

Re-Save as UTF-8 with a Byte Order Mark Oct 9, 2008

It looks like that the text file is missing the byte order mark signature and XBench doesn't recognize the file as a Unicode file without it.
Download EmEditor Free:
http://www.download.com/EmEditor-Free/3000-2352_4-10493299.html
and re-save the file as UTF-8 with a Unicode signature (=byte order mark).
