Trados Newbie...What should I do first?

Hello,
I now have over 900 pages of Trados Info. Do not know where to begin. What is the first piece of advice you would give a beginner? I have registered for the course on Dec. 2 but am afraid that I will last about 5 minutes before getting totally lost. FOr example, even have problems importing documents.
Any guidance or reference to old forums also appreciated.

Getting Started Guide Nov 20, 2008

Hi Sandy,

You can begin with the "Getting Started Guide". Then have a look at the relevant sections of the "File Formats Reference Guide" for the supported file types.

The How-To Videos Nov 20, 2008

They have all sorts of resources on their website, but I couldn't find their videos right off. Those were the most helpful introduction when I first starting using TRADOS a few years ago. You should look at their website thoroughly (I personally don't have the time right now) or send them an e-mail asking for a link to their videos, if they still have them.

The TRADOS manuals are really daunting and hard to get through! I only refer to them when I have a specific issue.

In restrospect and knowing what I do now, I would have started with CAT tools differently. To others reading this thread who are considering buying a CAT tool, I would recommend using a simpler, cheaper one before tackling TRADOS. There are articles on ProZ on this subject.

If you have access to your SDL-account, there are links to "old" Webinars and the Trados books in German at the SDL-Website:
