Hi,
I have Trados 6.5 on my old computer and I recently bought a new laptop (DELL Studio 17). Because of Windows Vista, I bought the upgrade to Trados 8, but I can't seem to download it. Even though I have a fast wireless Internet connection, the estimated downloading time always takes over 4 hours, and even when I try and wait that long to download the program, the download stops after a while because it took too long.
I have no problem downloading programs from other websites, just from the SDL website (I can't event download the installation guide)...
Does anyone have a clue about this?
Thanks much in advance for your help!

Hello Laurelei Dec 7, 2008

I had the same problem: Estimated download time 8 -12 hours! That was very annoying. I think the problem is that the SDL server is very slow.
I tried to download at night (less traffic perhaps) with my old computer (Windows XP), because Vista stops the download when it takes too long. Then I installed the program on the new computer.

Good luck!
Edith

Hi Edith,

I am currently trying to download Trados 8 on my old xp laptop and so far, so good, the download should take "only" 4 hours...
One question though: How did you transfer Trados 8 from your old computer to your new one? Did you burn it on a CD, or use a USB stick...?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Try this... Dec 8, 2008

Hello Laurelei,

There are a few known issues with Windows Vista causing download problems.

Please try the following:

1. Delete your temporary internet files via Tools / Internet Options.

2. Login to your online SDL account, go to My Downloads, select your download then select the "Alternative download via FTP " link.

3. Please make sure you do not have a firewall or anti-virus software blocking the download process.

4. Also, please allow https://oos.sdl.com as a trusted site in Internet options, to do this please do the following:

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Go to Tools / Internet Options
3. Select the Security Tab and then select the Trusted Sites Icon
4. Select the "Sites" button
5. Add https://oos.sdl.com to the list

Please note, you may need to restart your web browser after making these changes.

I hope this helps.

Many Thanks,

Gareth Powell

USB flash drive Dec 8, 2008

I think I used a USB flash drive (USB-Stick in German).

SDL Support: Why does the download take so long?

Astrid Johnson had problems with a very slow download too:
