Help Needed! Transfering SDLTrados activation code from "dead" computer to a new one

Hi guys,

I'm just wondering how I can transfer the activation code from my SDL Trados 2007 Freelance software from my old computer to the new one. I checked on all the SDL support help pages relating to licensing read about the option to return the code to then transfer it to another computer but returning the activation code is unfortunately not an option as my old computer's motherboard "died" and I can barely access my hard disk to get my files.
Has anybody here got a solution to that problem?

To visit the solution finder please follow these instructions:

1. Please visit: https://oos.sdl.com/asp/products/ssl/account/default.asp

2. Login with your username and password

3. Go to "My Support"

4. Select "Licensing and Installation Help"

5. Read the instructions and then select the "Solution finder direct link"

6. Select the "Licensing Problems" link in the left hand navigation pane

7. Answer the questions accordingly

Again, you will be given a support form to fill out if you don't find a solution.

Just happened to me Jan 16, 2009

Hi Bruno,

The same happened to me. The first activation code they give to you, though, can be used twice.

If, like me, two computers die within a couple of weeks, you may contact them and they provide you with a new code.

It took me ages to find out HOW to contact them, but I did it through this path:

- Log into my account
- Left menu -> My support
- Where it says "Licensing and installation Help", clic Go
- Follow strictly the 3 steps described there:

--- Click under the 1st one: (talisma.sdl.com)

--- Click tab SOLUTION FINDER

--- Click licensing problems on the left menu

--- Select 3rd radio button (demo only / activationdoesnotworkkkk)

--- On the next step, leave "Activation code" selected

--- AND.... WOOOOw, next step, "I cannot return the *** activation code"

--- Leave the only choice selected "I get an error message...." (that's not completely true, but ...)

--- At last, WELCOME to human assistance!! Fill in the form with your data.

That's all. Finding this out took me a couple of weeks (not full time, of course), but after that the answer came very fast.

I had tried the Solution finder and couldn't find anything that sounded like my case, and at the end of the series of questions, I didn't get access to the form... Guess I'll try again, or I might just buy a support agreement LOL

As for the licence, my page says that there's zero activation code available, so that's why I'm surprised I can use it on two machines. I'll try again.

Thanks for the answers, guys, it's been very helpful. The SDL website (sorry Gareth) isn't very user friendly for people who're not computer savvy
