Hi,
I am struggling with a problem: Word 2007 does not work; it keeps crashing.
I installed Office 2007 Small Business Edition and then SDL Trados 2007 on my laptop running Vista 32 SP2. All Windows updates are current (am using automatic updating).

It all worked fine until the Normal.dot became corrupted and since then it's been crashing. I replaced the normal.dot as suggested on Trados support, but it becomes corrupted again.

I tried this hotfix on Trados support:

http://talisma.sdl.com/display/2n/articleDirect/index.aspx?aid=2011&r=0.2622851

But I got an error message trying to copy and replace the TradosWordfilter.dll

The message:

An unexpected error is preventing the operation. Make a note of this error code...

Error message 0x80004005: Unspecified error

Please help as I really need this to work!

Thanks.

Try this... Jan 16, 2009

Hello Gary,

Did the problem only occur after you installed SDL Trados 2007?

If so then I would recommend replacing your Trados8.dotm template and deleting the normal.dotm template as suggested in the following SDL Knowledge Base article:

http://talisma.sdl.com/article.aspx?article=2086&p=1

Sometimes a problem can be caused by the User Account Control function which can prevent write access to certain folders. I would suggest turning this off when trying to install the hotfix. Also, please check that you have administration rights to these folders and can definitely access them.

I hope this helps.

Many Thanks,

Gareth Powell

Two copies of Trados8 in the templates! Jan 16, 2009

Hi Gareth,

There are two copies of Trados8 in the Word templates, one is recent and has an exclamation mark on it, the other is dated 30.7.2007 and also appears in the Word startup file.

I cannot delete the Trados8 with the exclamation mark! Please help.

Solution one problem when logged on as Adminsitrator Jan 16, 2009

Hi Gareth,
I logged on as admin and managed to delete 3 shortcuts to Trados8.dot, which got it working. I still have a major problem when logged in as a user though.

At least I can use Trados somehow on this laptop!

More later,
Gary

Check your access rights... Jan 16, 2009

Hi Gary,

After reading your post I strongly suspect that this has something to do with your access rights in your user account.

Please make sure that UAC is turned off by following these instructions:

1. Go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts
2. Choose "Turn User Account Control on or off
3. Un-tick the option "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer"
4. Press OK to accept all changes and restart your computer.

Also, please make sure that your user account is set up as an administrator. Go to User Accounts and choose the option to "Change your account type". You will be able to choose the Administrator option from here.

I hope this helps.

Many Thanks,

Gareth Powell
