Cut and Paste Version Feb 27, 2009

If it is a simple one column source language and one column target language assignment I usually just translate the whole thing, convert it into a monolingual document and cut and paste the translated column into the client's excel document.

Would that work for your case?

Thanks Ralf, I checked the file, but it has nothing about what I want.
Please advise.
Thanks.

Right at your fingertips? Feb 27, 2009

Please see chapter 11 of the SDL Trados File Formats Reference Guide.

Lazy as I am, I have not searched my hard disk, I googled:
http://fr46.uni-saarland.de/download/sdv/malaga2007/articles/TRADOS/FileFormatsRef_en.pdf
Uni of Saarland (!?). Page 223 of 331 (an Oschi size document by German standards).

Want this at your fingertips? Post on ProZ.

PS: bilinugal is a great new word - somewhere between bilirubin, nubile and nuggets 6pack. What was meant, was probably bilingual.

Thank Vito,
The page 223 pertains to PowerPoint preparation. Any way, I checked for the Excel, but only gives info about how to prepare tags.
Cheers.

233 - search for chapter 11. Anyhow - and you are of course right - you will not find anything better than what Frederike suggested. Were it different (like having the same in Excel as in Word), it would unworkable. It would be just one big horrible hairball.

I do it the way Frederike suggested and it is doable - pretty much straightforward.

No need to search your harddisk Feb 28, 2009

Vito,

Want this at your fingertips? Post on ProZ.

Much easier: go to your Programs menu. The File Formats Reference Guide is part of the documentation installed with the software. The advantage of using it from there is that you have a table of contents containing bookmarks - no need to search through 300+ pages at all.

Tamer: you can use TagEditor to translate Excel files; the TTX format is bilingual.

Regards,
Ralf
