SDLX TRADOS - unclean file Thread poster: Jacek Sierakowski

I just did my first translation with SDLX. Now, my client wants the 'unclean file', 'a word file where you can see all the trados segmentation'. How can I do this?
What I currently do, when I'm finished, I click on 'Translation Preview' and that's it.

SDLX (with the famous table view in contradiction to two windows and above and below view with Trados workbench) does not produce an "uncleaned Word file".
All you have is an itd file.
There is no Word file "where you can see all the trados segmentation".
This is what you would get, if you have been working with Workbench and Word.

An empty TM has some settings, for example it can be set up not to segment at the colon or there might be some abbreviations defined (ie the Polish "ust." is not a known abbreviation and a TM with standard setup will stop on it).

I sometime met with this situation.
My way of solution:
1. Convert *.itd file to *.ttx [Trados TagEditor file] in SDLX
2. Convert *.ttx file to *.rtf file in MS Word [using TTXpress template / macro for Word--- It is downloadable somewhere]
3. Now your client see unclean segments in *.rtf file!

P.S.: I don't know if that will solve your initial problem, though - if your client wanted an uncleaned file, you were supposed to do the translation in Word using Trados Translator's Workbench.

...to be honest, I've never used it. I think it's supposed to show up in Word, maybe as a new icon on the toolbar or something.
