S-Tagger for Framemaker and diacritic characters

I have English source FM files, which I converted into RTF using S-Tagger.

The RTFs are being translated into Spanish, and I was provided with a couple of files to make sure they are converted normally back into MIFs. The conversion went fine, but the problem is that in Frmemaker all diacritic Spanish characters are replaced by question marks...

The Framemaker version is 8, so it is supposed to be treating Unicode characters normally.

I would be grateful for any help.

Framemaker problem Mar 12, 2009

Hi Alex,
AFAIK, this is a Framamaker problem. My clients have to deal with the same kind of issues with my Czech translations and they have confirmed this is a problem of Framemaker. So, you will probably have to deal with it there.

Indeed Mar 12, 2009

No such problem with FM 7.2
Unicode in FM appears buggy.

Did you set up languages properly? Mar 12, 2009

What was the process you used?
Did you create ttx-files or used the rtf-workflow?
If you created ttx files and then "cleaned" them to rtf, this will NOT work.

Yes, languages were set up correctly Mar 12, 2009

The process was as follows:

First, I saves FM files as MIFs, then converted the MIFs in RTFs (as I was required to provide RTF files), and finally, I converted the received translated RTFs into MIFs.

The RTFs I received had been cleaned, is it wrong, should I ask to provide uncleaned RTFs?

Thank you, Spiros, using Framemaker 7.2 is a hint!

I would suppose, that cleaning was not a good option Mar 12, 2009

but still it most probably will not influence the whole process.
For Frame 7.2 it will work, as it is using other codepage (ANSI), not Unicode.
I have only experience with Framemaker 8 and ttx files for Polish. With ttx the process works fine. So I suppose rtf might be the problem.
