Converting a partially translated word file to .ttx

I have a partially translated Word file with lots of tags. Obviously, this would be easiest to translate in Tag Editor, but when I try to convert the file, I get an error message saying this cannot be done because the file is bilingual.
Anyone know how to solve this?

No way Mar 24, 2009

Hi Hilde,
I'm afraid you'll have to use your TM to translate the Wordfile in TagEditor once more. There is no way you can convert a bilingual DOC in to a TTX. Well, there may be one, but you would have to have QA Distiller (www.qa-distiller.com).
This is a QA tool that can process bilingual RTF. In order to process them, it first converts them into bilingual TTX files. So you would have to:
1. Download a 30-days trial of QA Distiller
2. Save your DOCs as RTFs
3. Run a QA check on them
4. Hope that QA Distiller can process them
5. If so, you will find the TTX file in the same folder as your RTFs.

Cheers,

Stanislav

Clean up, and start over Mar 24, 2009

Good morning, Hilde,
Tagging in the Word environment differs from TagEditor, so there's no way to convert.

What you can do is to clean up your Word file (to incorporate what's been translated so far into your TM), and to start over with the clean source file.

HTH, Ralf

There are a few ways Mar 24, 2009

Hi Hilde,

1. Save the files as RTF then drag them into TagEditor. The problem with this is that the Source and Target languages may not match the TM so you will have to search/Replace the source or target language using a tool like TextWorkbench.

2. If you received bilingual files from the client then you can restore source segments using PlusToyz then convert to TagEditor.

3. Save the files as RTF and use a tool called SaveAsTradosTag

Search Google for these tools

/Chris
