I wanted to change/add terms in MultiTerm and opened it as usual, selected the relevant data base and clicked on a term and then "change" (bearbeiten) as I always do (did), but now there appears the following error message: null

and then I click ok, it says: Java.lang.NullPointerException

The only thing I can do at the moment ist delete entries which I don't want to

Somebody stumble over that problem as well or knows what's wrong?

This does not occur when I enter terms in MultiTerm directly from the opened text in TagEditor.
But in TagEditor I can just add entries and not change them

TIA

Another victim of Java upgrades Apr 5, 2009

As many before you

Just close your Multiterm, change some settings and everything will be fine.
BTW, would you have used the search function, the problem would already have been solved.

Go to Start, chose Control Panel (Start -> Systemsteuerung).
Open Java - you find it there as a separate item.

Deselect the "Use next generation plug-in..." (Java Plug-In der nächsten Generation verwenden).
Save settings and you're done.

Nothing to be impressed with Apr 5, 2009

and I'm glad it worked for you too.

For future trouble: check at http://talisma.sdl.com - there are some solutions.
Check also this forum, using the search function.
As you are able to switch your Trados to English as language, do so, note the error message and use that one for search here first. This way you should get more results, as the language of this forum is English.

But I hope there will be no trouble anymore

Job as IT-consultant?! Apr 6, 2009

Good morning, Jerzy,

I was just browsing the most recent posts when I read this one. I assume it won't take long until you will be hired by some IT company as a consultant, won't you! You are really an expert!

Annett

doesn't work anymore Aug 9, 2011

thank you for the previous answer, as it has worked for me many times - I unchecked it with each Java update and kept working in my Trados MultiTerm 7.

the old java.lang.NullPointerException error had come back today, even though the checkbox is unchecked. - I cann't add terms to my termbase.

are there any other possiblities that could cause this.

thanks in advance

SDL thinks it's OK Aug 10, 2011

For some customers and more surprisingly - SDL support - the problem does not exist, or is exaggerated, or has been solved:

Never experienced any problems with Java Aug 10, 2011

I have XP in one computer, and Vista in another one, Java is being updated in both of them: no problems.

In my opinion, the problems, if any, strongly depend on the the state of the operating system, i.e. system clutter, registry problems etc.

Another toast to Jerzy Dec 14, 2011

I had experienced this problem three years ago, but since stumbling over the bugs in Multiterm, I had not used the system for a while. Googling for help in proz.com, I rather expected to find the solution had been posted by Jerzy.
This man deserves recognition for providing countless hours of free software support.

Thanks
Robert
