Hi Tomas,
SDL Trados 2007 and SDL Trados 2007 Suite are fundamentally the same product. The Suite version is the result of an upgrade process from SDL Trados 2007 to Service Pack 1 through Service Pack 2 and onto a new release (called the Suite) that added more support for file types, automated translation and incorporated technology for visual software translation of user interfaces (SDL Passolo).
The reference to Freelance refers to a version of all the products that has less features than the Professional version.

Hi Alexander,
MultiTerm 2009 will work with Word. If you have not uninstalled Multiterm 2007 before installing Studio and Multiterm 2009 then you can be left with two sets of word templates and this causes a failure. But if you have removed MultiTerm 2007 first then there should be no problem.
Can you explain the problems you are having?

It would seem you didn't read my post you were replying to. As per the information currently on the SDL website, only the 2007 Suite licence will be valid indefinitely. Those who are upgrading from anything older than that (including yours truly) are invited to buy the whole thousand dollar thing instead of the upgrade. Please, read it again. |

Firstly, maybe I don't understand fully who do you mean with "we" in your "what are we happy about". I personally have nothing to complain about now re licensing. I'm not sure how large is "your group", but I don't think your case should be any more "tragic" than of any other non-2009 user! 
What I see/read is:
"When upgrading to SDL Trados Studio 2009 you will also receive a permanent license of SDL Trados 2007 Suite. Both products can be installed in parallel. Please be aware you will however need to de-activate your previous software license before receiving your new licenses.If you would like to retain your previous license (for example SDL Trados 2006 or Trados 7), please consider purchasing a full new license."
If you upgrade (from Trados 2006 or Trados 7), you get lic. for 2009 and lic. for 2007. Two lic. instead of one, how bad is that? What exactly is there to grief about not being able to work with Trados 7 anymore when you would get Trados 2007? Or am I missing something?

I personally installed Freelance 2007 and, only about six months later, installed the Suite patch. I needed no extra license for that, simply only launched the installation file over the original installation. What would prevent you to proceed the same way?

What strikes me is why SDL refuses to acknowledge the whole SDL Trados 2007 Freelance situation--I haven't seen a single direct answer from SDL Trados 2007. If SDL Trados 2007 Freelance and SDL Trados 2007 Suite Freelance are the same product (Trados 8), why the different policy then?
I'm glad the issues for Trados 2007 Suite users are fully addressed but this kind of things make me very reluctant about upgrading.
About Multiterm 2009, it doesn't work with Word because the template is nowhere to be found. At least with the RC. Apparently the issue is not fixed in the released version, is it?
I personally will wait a few days before upgrading, something tells me that a few more surprises are ahead. | | | |

Hi Claudia,
I would highly recommend that you uninstall the RC version of SDL Multiterm 2009 and install the latest release version from your online SDL account. Also, please delete the following folder from your account before installing the latest version:
C:\Program Files\SDL\MultiTerm8 (in case you had MultiTerm 2009 Beta installed)
I think you are having an issue with the new SDL Multiterm template in Word. I would recommend following the instructions from the following knowledge base article to replace the current template and refresh your Word templates:

Please note that instead of copying over the Multiterm7.dot/dotm template, please copy over the Multiterm8.dot/dotm template from the following folder on your computer:
C:\Program Files\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\MultiTerm8\Templates

I think they above all mean that they are the same product in regards to validity/2009 replacement of the license for any of these. Yes, there is a bit more stuff in Suite, that's probably why the upgrade is a bit more expensive from the non-Suite version.
Or do you mean someting else with the "policy"? | | | |

I reported the error that my license is not upgraded after returning my license key and I have been waiting for two days now for a solution. I hope it will not take six days as in your case.
I have been a Trados user for a very long time, but now I am getting some doubts on their business ethics. I paid for a product that does not work. There is no way I can call or e-mail them. I have to find a solution myself in the Knowledge Base. Some years ago, I asked a question twice on their Support site. I never received an answer.
I am losing patience now. All I can do is wait until they have time to solve my problem. Product is paid, does not work. | | | |

Same problem here. You are not alone I have been waiting for three days now and I suppose that nothing will be solved before Monday, at least. I have paid for the update but I'm obliged to say my customers that I can't work since I have return my 2007 license. All this situation is very annoying. I'm beggining to explore DV possibilities.

So it's now easier to license Trados 2009? It took me weeks to get that sorted, after which I was happy that I would finally be using the new product I'd paid for. Not so! It crashes constantly (half an hour of continuous operation is a rarity, five minutes is not unusual), and in a bewildering variety of situations and patterns. This is a Beta release, not a finished product. I've ranted about this in other threads, so I'll just say that, in common with Viktoria and Andreas in this thread, I have moved on. I'm shopping for another CAT tool after a happy 6 years spend with Trados.
Which one? I'm trying MemoQ, and it looks good so far. Their support is amazingly responsive, answering e-mails in minutes (I even have the developer's Skype address), and the product _does not crash_ (oh, the luxury!). Its functions are at least as good as those of what I saw of Trados 2009 between crashes, and getting better all the time. Version 3.5 suffered from inadequate tag handling and footnote segmentation, which were major problems. 3.6 just came out (a Beta version that functions flawlessly), and it fixes all those issues. There's a 45-day free trial of the full version, so it's worth taking a look.

Could not contact activation server (Error code 50018) says SDL Studio 2009 after licences have been returned, progams installed and activation via internet (internet is connected, everything else works fine) is endeavoured.
This sort of thing can happen. But where is the alternative? Of what use is an "Activation Failed" window without an alternative phone number, e-mail address or other means of getting help?
So what do I do next? Surf the web and try to find support. Perhaps SDL support responds, perhaps it doesn't. It's all very annoying. | | | |
