Tag management in Studio 2009 Aug 4

Hi Myron,

Thanks for the reply. I hadn't read anyone with that specific problem till now. Today i translated another 2 files and only 1 of them gave tag problems, while the second one went on smoothly and perfectly. I am glad to know someone else had the same problem.

And what do you tell me about amending numbers or other things and Studio losing the changes? Ever had the same problem?

Hi Chicco,

it is the Studio bug. I have exerienced the same bugs while copying the tags from the source both by copy and paste function, and using the quickinsert function. After all I had to open the file in TagEditor, and only there I could copy the correct tags.

In my case, provided i had all of the above, except the too frequent crashes, i have another annoying problem.

I start a big project for a motorcycle company. It's overall about 100.000 words. I begin to work and every single line confirmed reveals tag issues (Yellow sign with exclamation point on it stating all problems). Most times the problem also shows copying source into target. In short, many tags are not copied and only part of them are. Useless trying to copy them.....there is no way to do it.
Using the quickinsert function too proves pretty unfriendly.

I wonder...is that me doing wrong or that is the nth bug? I only know that in TagEditor i never had these problems while now my company called me back to complain about all those Tag problems (Missing tags mostly....)

I try to fix the issue....re-copy/paste the tags...and they still don't paste. Same happens with some numerical values (Like MY '09-'10 that although the same in source and target is considered as wrong in target, despite me changing it, copying pasting it etc....). In other cases i have seen occasions in which the amendments performed on tags and number weren't saved and running a further VERIFY scan the issues were still there.

Has anyone ever experienced this issue?

Moving to next segment after applying exact match Aug 8

Hello all,

I don't know whether this is a bug or I'm just unable to find a way to turn it off, but

[038] when an exact match is applied from TM (either automatically or manually with Alt+1 or so) the cursor moves to the next segment without allowing me to edit the 100% match (I have to go up to edit). If there are more exact matches in a row, all are processed this way. It's the same behaviour as in Translate to Fuzzy in older versions and I think that this behavious should be adjustable.

And another one (again I don't whow wheter it's a bug or feature)

[039] When translating pretranslated ttx files in Studio, pretranslated segments are marked as confirmed, which would be OK for CM and exact matches, but also matches that are below 100% are marked as confirmed (and thus skipped when using Alt++ to move down)

Displaying both words and percentage Aug 8

[040] After changing "percentage" to "both" in the mini-stats line (bottom right) and restarting Studio, only percentage is there.

...this feature is useless, because it does not give any analysis of the document being translated, but indicates the number of approved entries. In other words, if you leave unapproved series of numbers (like 1., 2., etc.), it will show an adequate number of untranslated words (while numbers do not require translation). Maybe it can be set in preferences somewhere, but I haven't found it yet.

More issues Aug 14

Ok, here are some more issues detected

1) While exporting TMs in TMX format from Studio and then Reimport them on a TM for Trados 2007 there is often loss of segments (in one case one whole translation).
2) Since i have installed Studio, also Trados 2007 Suite begun to give problems like:
- TagEditor doesn't let me open certain TTX files full screen but only small windowed.
- The same files (ANY FORMAT TRIED TILL NOW, including DOC format) simply don't clean up, neither in Trados, nor in Studio. Issue detected is permanently TAG PROBLEMS
- One full batch of a translation (about 7000 words in all) was revised, checked for spelling etc and SIGNED OFF. Customer, again, checked it, and the file looked still a DRAFT. In short NO CHANGES HAD BEEN RECORDED. This one caused lots of complaints from end customer.
- A quick comparison of the same file between TagEditor and Studio showed that Studio organizes Tags in a different way, and that TagEditor is overall much clearer in what it does. It also showed in cleanup, where some DOC files retranslated with TagEditor (Window resized of course otherwise it crashes since i installed Studio) allowed my company to clean them up, after some work on it. NO STUDIO FILES WERE CLEANED UP BY MY AGENCY TILL NOW....They simply have issues with some DOC files.

NOTE: If resized manually, the TagEditor window crashes more or less when its size reaches that of the EDITOR screen in Studio. To me it's a conflict between the two software but maybe it would be better if SDL had a check on it. I only know BEFORE i didn't have any of these issues with Trados Suite 2007.
