segmenting on Trados Studio 2009 Aug 26, 2010

It is not enough simply to mark segments to merge them, you HAVE TO click on the number of the firsts egment to merge, then press SHIFT and click the number of the last segment to merge. The segments to merge will get a slightly yellow background then. If there is no paragraph mark somwhere in the middle, the segments may be merged now.

Hi Jerzy,

Thank you for solving my problem with your indications. I was getting a little bit disappointed with the answers above as they were giving me the idea that it wasn't possible to merge segments on studio 2009.

Best Regards,

I cannot merge segments and source does not appear to have a hard return. Oct 22, 2010

I'm using Trados Studio 2009 with SP3 installed. It's working perfectly, except that it will not let me merge segments. Sentences are being segmented in really inconvenient ways, mid-sentence. I have followed all suggestions in the manual and help topics, but "Merge segments" is greyed out every time. I have examined the source document, but there are no breaks at all in the source.

Anyone else having this problem, and better yet, does anyone know a solution?

Nevermind, problem solved (sort of) Oct 25, 2010

Nevermind. I am able to merge some segments, and it looks like the problem segments are the result of a badly created XML source file, where the author has assigned different attributes mid-sentence (and even mid-word sometimes!), and T2009 has interpreted that as multiple segments which cannot be merged. Very annoying, but it cannot be fixed without a new source text!

Vote on SDL' "ideas" website Oct 31, 2010

I just met the same problem in Studio (working from an OCRed pdf); I can't merge segments that include an (undue) paragraph break.

I understand that there is no solution apart from manually pre-processing the source file.

Just in case, several ideas have been submitted in this regard on SDL's "ideas" website and collected, for some of them, a high number of votes. With no results up to now.

Maybe it would be useful if the colleagues concerned could vote for one/several of these proposals on SDL's site?
