Hi Natália, The usual questions... Which version of Trados? Which version of Word? Which operating system (just in case, although that shouldn't be as issue here)? Cheers, Ralf | | | Possible solution | Nov 2, 2003 |
It might help to autotranslate the document instead of using the Translate to fuzzy function. | | | ncfialho (X) Local time: 00:18 German to Portuguese + ... TOPIC STARTER Seems as people never remember the simple+necessary facts :) | Nov 2, 2003 |

Ralf Lemster Germany Local time: 01:18 English to German + ... Font might be the issue | Nov 2, 2003 |
Thanks Natalia, Which version of Trados?->5.5 FL I almost suspected that... This could be an issue related to codepage conversion (which was enhanced in T6), but it's not necessarily a Trados problem. My guess is that Word is unable to find the special characters in the codepage for the (uninstalled) font and is forced to use TNR instead. If the document supplied by your customer contains a single font only, it should be no problem for them to replace the odd TNR character. Two articles from the Trados KB which are not directly related, but might provide info: support.trados.com/view.asp?cntID=780 support.trados.com/view.asp?cntID=868 HTH, Ralf | | | ncfialho (X) Local time: 00:18 German to Portuguese + ... I will simply ask my client what he prefers....I can provide both documents one made with Wordfast (but I think when you open it in Trados it changes automatically the font...) the toher made with Trados We will see what he wants. Thanks for you help. Natália

Also, there is a solution to already corrupted characters in a word doc -> just Save As Word 97 doc (select this format in the Save As dialog), Close and reopen -> and voila, all corrupted characters are back now, what a magic seems like the reason is Word 97 used non-unicode fonts and therefore they are corrected upon reopening the DOC. The only problem is if your doc uses functions not available in Word 97, you will lose them upon saving in the Word 97 format. ...
