Hallo,
I receive on and on this message while trying to open SDL Studio 2009.
I found this solution however I cannot find such file in my computer:
Multiterm problem: "An unexpected error has occurred while loading application plug-ins"
Delete the following file:
C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\8.5.0.0\ plugincache.xml
Then restart Multiterm.
In the case of the same problem with Studio, delete the parallel file:
C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\9.1.0.0\plugincache.xml
So it doesn't work.
I run Trados on Windows XP
Help please! | | | |

Vial Control Panel - File and folder options make sure you are shown ALL files and no file name extensions are hidden.
Then try to remove the UserSettings.xml and BaseSettings.xml from SDL Studio folder (same main folder as the one for MultiTerm already quoted in your post)

No such files exist in the SDL Trados Studio folder.
There are other .xml files so the problem is not that they are hidden.
Thank you for your help.
Any idea what else can I do?

If you do not see the files, then system files are hidden - not xml files per se, but system files and folders.
Studio always creates those setting files. If you do not see them, check for hidden system files and folders.

Thank you very much!
I did it!
Now I can't see my projects but probably I will be able to restore them.
The more important thing is that I opened Trados

In My documents in the folder SDL Trados look inside the Projects folder.
A projects.xml.0.bak should be there.
Rename it back to projects.xml
Should it not work, you can restore any project by double clicking the sdlproj file in project folder.

I restored my projects too!
Dear Paulina,
Read once again the suggestion of Jerzy Czopik. These files are there but they are hidden. I went to Folder options in the Control Panel as he suggested and then in the window View, I chose the option "Show hidden files and folders", as well as the option "Display the content of system folders".
And then the folder Application Data appeared and the above mentioned files in it too.
Good luck! | | | |

Hello all,
I had the same problem so I followed all the instructions in this thread and it worked! Thank goodness for the experts!
For me, I was unable to open SDL Trados Studio 2009 after an update was installed.
I could not see the Application Data file but after unhiding the hidden files in the Control Panel I was able to delete the files.

Hello everybody,
For a while Trados 2009 worked perfectly on my computer, but now I cannot get it launched because of the abovementioned error message. I followed every instruction in this thread, but I still receive the message. The problem is not that the related files are hidden, because they are not. But when I remove them, Trados still does not work.
So, to be clear, I removed the BaseSettings, plugincache and Usersettings xml-files in the SDL Trados Studio folder and the plugincache xml-file in de SDL MultiTerm folder, but it did not help. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here? By the way, my computer runs on Windows 7 (64-bit)
Thanks

Six hours of blind panic and completely wasting my time trying to sort this out via SDL support, which is utterly useless if you're less than fluent in the language of computery stuff...grrr!!!! Thank you proz users! You are absolute lifesavers and it's very reasuring to know that there are people out there who are generous enought to spend their valuable time helping the less technologically gifted

At least, not for me.
i have deleted the user settings and base settings file and the plugincache, but I still get the same error message.
Any suggestions?

Your OS then, and the files you deleted.
It might seem to you obvious, but is not obvious to anyone here.
