2011 Demo Oct 1, 2011

Hi,

The demo version of 2011 will be available in around 3/4-weeks, until then (assuming you didn't take the early access version that was available for a while) you can use this link to get an idea of what's in it:

DVX: http://www.atril.com - 30 days
Swordfish: http://www.maxprograms.com - 30 days
Cafetran: http://www.cafetran.republika.pl - 30 days
Wordfast: http://www.wordfast.com - 30 days
Metatexis: http://www.metatexis.com - 30 days, AFAIR (I should recheck it, maybe 45...)
Fluency: http://www.westernstandard.com - 15 days (I love the name of this site, a real proof of the supremacy of the Western civilization...)
etc., etc.

These guys are not ashamed of the tools they provide...
So, itt seems the Trados guys are ashamed of their stuff starting from approx. 2007

Cheers

Oh my Jan 26

That's why I'd never buy a piece of software that I can't test beforehand. I hope you'll find a solution soon!

Reason for no demo: technical or marketing/policy? Jan 26

It would be nice to know if the absence of a demo version is due to technical reasons or if it's a conscious marketing decision.

Based on Paul's post from 1-Oct-2011 ("The demo version of 2011 will be available in around 3/4-weeks"), I would think the reason is technical. But (AFAIK) Paul is "just" a tech support guy, so maybe the marketing people at SDL have decided otherwise since. At any rate, an official statement by SDL would be nice: will there be a Studio 2011 demo, and if so, when?

IMO it's the marketing.
The potential users will not be harmed.

I don't think so.
The full Studio 2011 version works in a fully features demo mode during 30 days after the first launch (without activation).
They simply don't want to publish it.

Paul is a cool guy but basically I don't trust any date communicated by Trados guys.
E.g. in 2008, AFAIR, a tech guy told me a working Multiterm tab separated filter will be available "soon" and it's still screwed up as it was from the beginning.

Cheers

Hands up! Jan 26

Hi all,

I did indeed say the demo version would be available in 3/4 weeks quite some months ago. Apologies for getting this so wrong.

When we released the trial originally we released with this an interactive demo to make it easier for users to find their way around all the features by giving them some help. The intention is to do this again so a decision was made to hold the release of the software back until the demo was ready and this has taken much longer than expected.

I'll refrain from risking another date.... GG won't believe me anyway... but it should be sooner rather than later.

Regards

Paul

Thx Jan 30

Hi Paul,
thanks for your feedback. Demo material to make the migration easier is highly appreciated. However, considering the period of time that has already passed, wouldn't it be reasonable to make the trial version available to those who would like to give it a go with the documentation/help that is available now (maybe with a note "recommended for experienced users" or the like) – what do you think? (Yes, I'm aware that this is what the early bird campaign was about, but alas, I was too late for that and figured it wouldn't take too long for the official trial version to be released anyway).

Kind regards
