I can't use Workbench in Word 2010, because my Word 2010 is the 64-bit version and trados8.dotm is not compatible with it (wordfast.dot has no problem with 64-bit Word 2010).

I am not sure I can describe them all (and I am not a patient person, unfortunately, so when I am in a hurry to meet a deadline, I will choose the solution that works rather than concentrate on one that doesn't). And I am reasonably conversant with computers, but not a computer geek by any means and I hate having to spend more time fixing bugs than doing translation!
I installed Office 2010 because a regular client with very complex documents (footnotes, endnotes, graphics, etc.) created in Word 2010 complained that conversion in an older format screwed their formatting; I admit I was reluctant, but after a bit of a learning curve, I love it. Unfortunately, the interaction between Office 2010 and Trados 2007 appeared a bit complex: the full Trados menu is well hidden (I have suspicions that it appears and disappears at will, so sometimes the only way to use "Fix Document" or "Toggle Document Protection" is by using macro shortcuts), my documents started crashing when I tried to translate footnotes, Tag Editor frequently refuses to open Excel and Word documents by saying that a document is not in a Word 2007 format, etc. Finally, after I opened a segmented file to find all my endnotes converted into "Error!Reference cannot be found" fields, I freaked and installed the Wordfast template in order to complete my project. Since I know that SDL intended to drop Workbench development after the 2007 version, I assumed that that was the source of the problem.
(I had already installed Studio 2011 on my laptop, but I cannot use it for these projects because I work with an editor who corrects my bilingual segmented files using Wordfast, and segmented Studio files are in a proprietary format incompatible with any other tool. This is by the way a whole other major issue, sufficient to ensure that I will never drop money into another SDL update until that approach is changed!)
Right afterwards, I installed Studio 2011 for another project, and I started getting macro/Visual Basic error messages every time I try to open a Word document. I haven't had time to investigate the source of the problem (probably something to do with a conflict between Wordfast and the Studio installation, because it doesn't happen on my laptop where Wf is not installed), but I will do it right after my rush is over and keep you posted.

And TBH I am even not sure if those are real misunderstandings or simply the missing will to understand.
I understand, that the ability to place my working files where I want them is crucial to anyone of us. This is a fact and I never would doubt that. It is crucial and important. Period.
Could you now please tell me, which working files cannot be stored with Studio in the location of your choice? And I mean a location outside of the Studio subfolder within the libraries or my documents in Windows.
Please name the files and the location which is given by Studio and cannot be changed.
Which files cannot be synchronized with another computer because Studio prevents you from doing so?

Studio does not install anything in Word.
Your problems might be connected to templates there, and those are installed by Trados 2007 or Wordfast.

I have been aware of that since 2007, when I took the five-day training for Trados trainers, but how is that supposed to make me happy?
And does it make any sense when there are thousands of Trados 2007 users out there who like the interface and functionality of Trados 2007 just fine (despite bugs, which you are able to fix quite easily most of the time) but are forced to shell out for an upgrade to a shitty piece of software which is incompatible with anything else, hard to customize, impossible to work around silly errors and generally more trouble than it's worth?
(As an example, a small graphic in a word file was making back-conversion impossible, and I had to export the TM, go back to Trados 2007, import the TM, and re-translate the file using Word and Workbench while manually skipping the graphic.)
Also, have you noticed that the match algorithm has changed? For instance, I have the title "From Strategy to Action" come up as a 60% match with "FROM SOUP TO NUTS" in Studio (I have a screenshot if you have trouble believing that), where Trados 2007 completely (and intelligently) ignores it. I don't offer Trados discounts myself, but agencies who like to pay less for fuzzy matches must have a field day with the new Studio version.
And as for saving files where I want it - I value my time and my clicks. If I have to do 5 extra clicks to save my file where I want it, every time I open a file, can you calculate how many extra clicks that means in a week or in a month? I will choose a program that I can customize over one that forces me to adopt a particular workflow any time.

You are piss... OK, that's your problem.
But have you read the quoted article?
T2007 has been released far before Office 2010 came out.
Since then there have been two new products released, which do support Office 2010.
OK, they are not macros for Word 2010 anymore, but fully integrated translation solutions as MemoQ, DejaVu and many others.
Trados 2007 will not be developed anymore, exactly as Windows XP.
That's it and we need to accept that.
I shall write here again when I get the answer to my question, which files from Studio 2011 are those making problems and hindering you on synchronizing your folders.
