I know my question is naïve, but I am no expert with Trados...
A client sent me a Multiterm database and asked me to activate the Multiterm option. Can anybody explain how this works?
(I am working with Tag Editor)
Many thanks.
Elena

Hi Elena,
Can you please tell us which versions of Workbench and MultiTerm you're using? (Full version numbers, please...)

Thanks, Ralf

More precisely...? Jul 9, 2004

Hi again,
Please have a look at the exact version number in each program (i.e. in Translators Workbench and MultiTerm). You will find this under Help - About....

The reason why I'm asking is that you could be using MultiTerm 5.5 or MTiX (6.0 or 6.2). To tell you how to use it, we need to know which software you have installed.

Best regards, Ralf

Not quite, but you looked in the right spot - the info you quoted is your license info, i.e. what's registered on your dongle. What I'm looking for is the version number - for your Workbench, I would assume 6.0.0.309 or 6.0.0.310; if you're using MTiX, you could perhaps see 6.2.0.267. Can you please confirm?

Moving on a little bit, what file format is the database your client sent you? (What are the file extensions of the files sent?)

Cheers, Ralf

sorry... Jul 9, 2004

it is Workbench 6.0.0.309.
I cannot find the Multiterm application.
The client's file is an MTW database, but it appears as "unknown application" in my PC.

MultiTerm must be installed on your machine Jul 9, 2004

Thanks, Elena.
I cannot find the Multiterm application.

To use MultiTerm, it must be installed on your PC.

I'm not surprised. The .mtw format belongs to MultiTerm 5.x, which has been superseded by MultiTerm iX (6.x). Workbench 6 can communicate with MultiTerm 5.5, but that must also be installed on your PC in order to use it.

Given that your license shows "MultiTerm 2000" (which, IIRC, was an early version of MTiX), you should be able to get the latest version of MTiX; contact the office where you bought your Freelance license for download info. MTiX 6.2.0.267 or higher also contains a conversion utility (MTConvert) which lets you convert the .mtw data into the XML format used by MTiX.

HTH, Ralf
