TRADOS 6.5 error: "TW4Win.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close"
Thread poster: Barbara Østergaard
I have just received my TRADOS order and am now working my way through the tutorials. However, when I try to open Translator's Workbench I receive the following message: "TW4Win.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I have tried to uninstall and then reinstall both TRADOS and MultiTerm but the problem remains.
Can anybody tell me what the problem is?

What version of WB? What are you opening? Or are you just starting the Workbench and it crashes?
The version is TRADOS 6.5 Freelance and the Workbench crashes when I try to open it. It seems that it crashes in connection with the "checking user permissions" process.
I have already contacted TRADOS Support but have not yet received their reply.

I agree with Jerzy that this is a Windows problem and not a Trados problem.
I Googled for "TW4Win.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" and got nothing, but when I tried "has encountered a problem and needs to close", it gave 6,300 results with different program names in front of the string.

| How do I check the compatibility of WB and my OS ? || Apr 15, 2007 |
I installed and have been trying to run the SDL TRADOS 2007 trial version without success.
When I try to open the Workbench, the Winalign or TagEditor I get the " the system has encountered a problem and needs to be closed" error.
AppName: tw4win.exe AppVer: 184.108.40.2060 ModName: msvcr80.dll
ModVer: 8.0.50727.163 Offset: 00017595
I renamed the Trados registry as suggested in another forum, deleted the .: trados6.dot , restarted my PC, installed the software again but keep getting the same error.
Could you please tell me How do I check the compatibility with my OS ?
Thanks a lot for your help,

I'm getting the same error message but only once I start working in TagEditor, i.e. with WB already running. Having no clue as to how to fix it I eventually just dragged the message out of the way and carried on working. Encountered no further problems.
I'd still like to know how to fix it though.
