Hi Trados (Freelance 6.5) experts

I have received the following message from a client. I am not sure how to reply to it as it seems as if preis relates to the specified matrix below. Can you explain how the preis relates to the matrix below and what the given matrix figures mean. Do I have to setup my Trados software to fullfill the matrix requirements below? How would you reply to the client in a professional manner in this case?

Clients message:

Wir müssen uns auf einen festen Wortpreis einigen.

Bitte bedenke dabei folgende Trados-Matrix:

Repetition: 25 %
100% match: 25%
95-99%match: 33%
75-94%match: 50%
< 75%match: 100%

Thanks.

Eve Schuttler

You don't need to setup anything Dec 1, 2004

This matrix means simply, that if you agree on a word price, you will get the specified percentual amount of this price per word, which falls in that category in the analsysis from Trados.
It is up to you, if you accept such accounting method.
This is not very unusuall using Trados and the proposed matrix is acceptable from my point of view.

Regards
Jerzy

Don't use the 'smaller than' sign in plain forum text Dec 1, 2004

Hi Eve,
Your post was cut off because you used the 'smaller than' sign.

Just to clarify. Where is says less than 75%. Does it mean that if the match of my translation is less than 75% that I would not get payed for translating that particular word? Thanks.

Given the scale you quoted, it means that you will be paid in full for any matches below 75%. In contrast, the word count for full (100%) matches or repetitions is only weighted at 25%.

You may want to search the forums for "match percentages".

HTH - best regards,
Ralf

Once again - don't use the "less than" mark, as your postings are beeing cut off Dec 1, 2004

Hi Jerzy Sorry for my attampt to reply at the bottom. Just to clarify. I refer to the less then 75% on the matrix. If my translation matches less than 75% will I not get paid for translating that particular word or text? Eve

As Ralf stated above, you will get fully paid per each word, which belongs to the category less than 75% match and no match.

Please taky any file you have, go to Trados and analyse it.
As result you will get a matrix, which looks like that:

Match Types Segments Words Percent Placeables
XTranslated 0 0 0 0
Repetitions 14 42 3 0
100% 38 44 3 0
95% - 99% 14 18 1 0
85% - 94% 5 14 1 0
75% - 84% 3 11 1 0
50% - 74% 64 206 15 0
No Match 141 1,068 76 1
Total 279 1,403 100 1

As you can see, the analysis diversificates between repetitions (42 words, to be paid 25% of your word price according to your matrix); 100% matches (to paid at 25%); 99-95% matches (going to be paid 33% of your agreed word price); 94-75% match (50% paid) and less than 75% matches (here are two categories in fact, matches 74-50% and no match, which are beeing paid fully).

For easy calculation lets asume, your word price is 10 cent.
The payment for this job will be then calculated as follows:
42 * 0.10 * 25% = 1.05
44 * 0.10 * 25% = 1.10
18 * 0.10 * 33% = 0.59
(14+11) * 0.10 * 50% = 1.25
(206+1,403) * 0.10 * 100% = 160.90
Total = 164.89

So it works.
I hope this claryfies your doubts.

Regards
Jerzy
