Studio 2014: annoying behaviour with return packages Thread poster: Matthijs Frankena

Could anyone help me with the following little annoyances in Studio 2014? When I work on a project that has been sent to me in a Studio package and I want to return the translated document, I create a return package. When I work on a project that has been sent to me in a Studio package and I want to return the translated document, I create a return package. First little annoyance: Studio does not automatically suggest to save this package in the folder for the current project, but always wants to save it in the previous folder where I saved a return package. Is there any way to make Studio go to the current project folder instead of a folder for a previous project, that most likely has nothing to do with the current project? Second little annoyance: After the return package has been created, Studio automatically starts Outlook. I thought I did not even have Outlook installed on my computer (but I do use other MS Office 2013 programs), so I always cancel the configuration wizard that appears. As I prefer to deal with returning packages myself (and often I don't even send them by email, but instead upload them to the clients FTP server), I have no need for this functionality. There is a button in the Create Return Package dialog to 'Send Package by Email', but I never click that button; and indeed Studio already starts Outlook before I have a chance to do that. Is there any way to disable this Outlook starting function? These are not urgent matters, but just little nags that pop up and make me wish there was a way around them. Unfortunately the SDL Knowledge Base is not of much help. Thanks in advance Matthijs ▲ Collapse | | | Heinrich Pesch Finland Local time: 10:12 Member (2003) Finnish to German + ... Studio also saves projects in the folder the last project was saved. I don't like it either. Outlook does not interfere in my system. I don't know why this happens in your's. | | | Tamaralina United States Local time: 00:12 English to Portuguese + ... Annoying Outlook Express opens when creating return package | Apr 8, 2015 |
I do have the same problem with Outlook, and I cannot change the settings. Very annoying! | | | Walter Blaser Switzerland Local time: 09:12 French to German + ... Project packages are saved in one common folder | Apr 8, 2015 |
Heinrich Pesch wrote: Studio also saves projects in the folder the last project was saved. I don't like it either. The reason it does this is because this project package is just a temporary file. As soon as you opened it and updated your project, you don't need it anymore. This is why Studio always saves these packages in the same place because it assumes that you have a special (kind of transfer) folder for all your outgoing packages and incoming return packages, irrespective of the project they belong to. I don't see any need to save packages in a project-specific folder because this really is not necessary, it only duplicates everything because the packages are anyway already stored in the "Packages" subfolder of your project. Personally, I put all incoming and outgoing project packages in one common folder, which I clean up from time to time. Walter

Any Studio technical-support employee taking care of this? | Jul 8, 2015 |
Both things are indeed very annoying and couldn't agree more on both issues... Any tip from a Studio specialist? | | | Use Outlook without an email account. | Jan 8, 2016 |
I found this thread because I was looking for a solution to the very same problem about the Outlook triggered by Studio return package creation wizard. But apparently no one came with an answer so far. Well, I'm not sure if this is a "solution", but the Outlook thing finally never comes up again after I did this: 1. I declined and proceed by choosing to use Outlook without any email account (because I don't need Outlook for email management). 4. Click finish button and close the Outlook. Since then, every time I create a return package, the Studio never calls the Outlook again. Best, Adhi ▲ Collapse | | | Tamaralina United States Local time: 00:12 English to Portuguese + ... Create a folder for packages/project | Jan 19, 2016 |
I don't have a problem with the return package. I always create a folder where I want to place the extracted package. Once you do that, the extracted package will have two folders for packages, In and Out. When you create the return package, Studio will automatically place it in the Out folder. As for the Outlook problem, still could not find an answer. | | | Aaron Alder Local time: 01:12 Member (2003) German to English Worked for me | Jan 29, 2016 |
This also worked for me. Thanks for figuring that out.
