Hallo, I'm new to Trados. I was asked to send my TM at the end of a work. But I can't understand how. As attached, my pc tells me there is a virus in TM file, but I have no virus in it... Can someone helps me?

Thanks a lot,

Manuela

Export the relevant TUs Jan 9, 2005

Hi Manuela,
On a general note, it would be helpful if you could always provide information on the software versions you're using. I'm guessing that you're working on Word files...

I was asked to send my TM at the end of a work. But I can't understand how.

Your TM consists of five files (.tmw - the main database file - plus .iix, .mdf, .mtf and .mwf). You could send these five files, however, this would mean you're sending your entire TM.

It's preferable to export only those translation units (TUs) which refer to the project at hand. If you cannot control the export using database attributes, you could create an empty TM and clean up a copy of the translated bilingual document using this TM (make sure to activate the Update TM switch).

As attached, my pc tells me there is a virus in TM file, but I have no virus in it... Can someone helps me?

What virus scanner are you using, and which message do you get exactly?

Best regards,
Ralf

Export a .txt file Jan 10, 2005

Sorry, you 're right! I'm working on a Word file. I have exported just the units of my project and now I have a .txt file. It is very short and incomprehensive, is it right? Should I send this file and just it?

My virus scanner is McAfee and is updated. I'll try again to send the new file!

Thank you for your patience!

Best regards,
Manuela

What was agreed? Jan 10, 2005

Hi again,
Specifically, what was agreed with your customer?

I'm working on a Word file.

The easiest would be to send the Word file before cleanup.

I have exported just the units of my project and now I have a .txt file. It is very short

...that depends on the size of your project...
[quote] and incomprehensive, is it right?[\quote]
What do you mean by "incomprehensive"?

Should I send this file and just it?

That should be sufficient - but what was agreed with your customer?

My virus scanner is McAfee and is updated.

Once again: what message did you get? Which virus was reported?

Cheers, Ralf

Uncleaned file and Tn of the project Jan 10, 2005

I have to deliver

-uncleaned files (therefore I don't have to send the cleanup Word file);
-and TM of the project (I have exported just the units of my project and now I have a .txt file - I made a mistake... the file is ok!I tried to send this new file and I got no virus message, so it's ok too.).

So, for "TM", do I have to send just this .txt file?

Thanks again

Manuela

Pre-cleanup file vs. TM export Jan 10, 2005

Hi again,
-uncleaned files (therefore I don't have to send the cleanup Word file);

...which begs the question why a TM export would also be required. The data is the same...

So, for "TM", do I have to send just this .txt file?

Sorry for being persistent: what exactly was agreed?
The data contained in the export is the same as the TM - yet some people prefer this, others that...

Best,
Ralf

My customer wrote... Jan 10, 2005

Here I am again!

"This
translation has to be done using Trados. Please deliver uncleaned files and
TM. Create empty TM in the beginning of the project."

This is what my customer wrote to me in his last e-mail...

What do I have to do at last?

Best regards,

Manuela

Cleanup into empty TM Jan 10, 2005

Hi...
- Create a backup copy of the uncleaned file.
- Create an empty TM.
- Cleanup the copy using the empty TM: this will create a TM that only contains the TUs for the project.

HTH, Ralf
